To not have access to your own money should be a crime. I just spent the morning fighting my bank instead of running my business. I got completely locked out of my business account during crucial inventory buys. The "suspicious activity" that triggered a total freeze? Spending less than $500 total on eBay in $10-$20 increments. Here is the context: I was on a buying spree securing Pokémon card inventory for our business. We were using a dedicated business card. High velocity, low dollar amount transactions. Exactly the kind of activity you would expect on this card. TradFi fraud detection isn't just outdated; at this point, it is actively hostile to small business operators. The sequence of events was absurd: - The card gets declined. - I call the bank and sit on hold. - I verify my identity and explain the activity is legitimate. - They apologize, "whitelist" the activity, and unlock the card. I hang up, attempt one more $15 purchase... and their system immediately auto-locks me again. This time I have to physically go to the bank and deal with it. It is maddening to have to ask permission to spend your own capital, be granted that permission by a human, and have it instantly revoked by an algorithm that refuses to learn. But the real kicker? It’s not just me facing this friction. As you can see in the screenshots below... (Apologies they are out of order) After I messaged the eBay seller explaining why my payment failed, they replied stating they just dealt with the exact same issue that same week. Different Bank. Same BS. When two parties want to transact and have the capital to do so, but a centralized intermediary stops them because their "velocity" pattern looks weird to a 20-year-old risk model, the system is broken. This is the ultimate failure of the current banking architecture. The "safety" they promise is actually a cage for your liquidity. There is no better example of why we need sovereign money and better fintech banks built onchain. We need financial rails where the rules are transparent, custody is yours, and transactions happen at the speed of the internet not the speed of a fraud department call center. When we talk about crypto or stablecoins, it’s not just about speculation. It’s about the basic right to transact without treating your own money like you’re borrowing it from the bank.
