@Vibutler_ Variance on lower sample sizes. That and its possible you get “warmer” as the set continues

Genuine question. Why am I doing better on the simulated MBE 100-200 sets than I am in the shorter 10 q sets ?

@mattjklk This is probably because there is more pre-sorting for the 200k interviews than the 40k interviews.

If you’re going to slack someone a joke at work, it has to be funny enough that 2/3 the jury laughs when it’s read aloud.

@BoringBiz_ Move number 4 to number 1. The people and culture around you is the most important

If I was a sellside analyst considering switching over to a buyside firm, here are the questions I would ask to figure out the right seat for me This is across private equity, private credit and hedge funds 1. What type of investing interests you? > Do you enjoy investing in mature businesses or earlier-stage growth companies? > Do you want to work in equity or credit? Or a potential hybrid seat in between that invests across the capital structure? > Do you enjoy public or private markets? Public markets give you a constant feedback loop, but private markets allow you to become more operationally involved > Do you want to purchase majority shares in companies or take minority equity positions? 2. What sector interests you? > Do you want to be a generalist investing across sectors? > Do you want to focus on a specific vertical or sector? What about that sector excites you? > Do you want to work on companies within a specific geography (U.S. stocks and businesses) or have a more international focus? > How cyclical will your sector be? An overly cyclical sector that goes through boom and bust periods means more career risk than others 3. What type of experience are you looking to get? > Do you have more interest in large caps or small caps? Middle market or mega fund? > Do you want to be operationally hands on in the companies you invest in? Typically you will get more of this experience at the middle market and lower middle market level > How involved do you want to be in your portfolio companies? > What is the typical holding period of companies you are invested in? What is the turnover in the portfolio? > What is the typical hold size when you make a purchase? What size are the largest positions in the book? 4. What type of people will you be working with? > How many people are currently on the team? How large are the deal team sizes? > Who sits on the IC? How large are the ICs and who are the key decision makers? > Who is the portfolio manager? What is their background and what sort of underwriting do they prefer to do? > What are backgrounds of the senior analysts or MDs in the group? How long have they been at the firm? > What is typical turnover and churn at the junior level?

@Noahpinion We had a certain (mid-profile) congressman attend our law school class and tell us he never read a single bill he voted on. Meanwhile, former hill staffers in the class were defending the congressman because “at least someone read it.” 😂

@KFCBarstool It’s a 3,000 year old old poem and we read it in HS, which must mean the book is trash. No need to question why it’s nearly universally assigned to students, that’d be way too hard.

“The book is better than the movie” people are always pretty annoying but this latest iteration of people doing it for the odyssey is so performative & fake. It’s a 3,000 yr old poem. It’s not a modern day book series. There are no diehard Homer fans. We read it in HS. Stop it.
