Trump says at request of Pakistan and other nations he’s suspending so-called Project Freedom “for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement [with Iran] can be finalized and signed.” Naval blockade, he says, will remain in place.

St Petersburg-based American blogger Brandan Slabaugh complains that while re-entering Russia he was "detained at the airport again, not the first, second, or even third time," adding that he’s "starting to lose hope." He says after a 25-hour trip from Bali to Moscow via Dubai, he was held for several hours at passport control, where officers "took my phone and checked everything, VK [Russian Facebook], Instagram, Telegram" and asked personal questions about his family, which "felt like an invasion of privacy." "I get that countries have the right to protect themselves and check foreigners," he adds, "but when you see others just walking through, it raises questions. It’s frustrating."

Mamdani spokesperson Sam Raskin tells @DropSiteNews "Mayor Mamdani is deeply opposed to the real estate expo this evening that includes the promotion of the sale of land in settlements in the Occupied West Bank. These settlements are illegal under international law and deeply tied to the ongoing displacement of Palestinians. Our administration has also been clear that we are committed to ensuring safe entry and exit from any house of worship, and that such access never be in question while all protesters are able to exercise their First Amendment rights."

This evening in Manhattan, “The Great Israeli Real Estate Event” will be advertising land available for sale in Gush Etzion, a cluster of illegal West Bank settlements, while also making tax, legal, and banking services available for those who want to become settlers, according to the event’s publicly listed information. Despite the commercial and internationally illegal nature of the event -- the UN considers Gush Etzion to be an illegal settlement -- it is being hosted at a religious institution, Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side. Previous events have drawn protesters and counter-protesters, leading to charges of antisemitism leveled at the protesters for demonstrating near a synagogue. The protesters have countered that it is inappropriate to use a religious institution to shield such a contentious practice. In the wake of previous protests, the New York City Council, with a veto-proof majority, in March passed legislation restricting such demonstrations.

One of the greatest silent crimes of the past decades has been the economic sanctions imposed on Iran. The scale and depth of this unwarranted and unjustified pressure rise to the level of crimes against humanity. Iran has aptly described these measures as “economic terrorism,” for they follow the precise logic of terrorism: deliberately inflicting harm on civilians in order to force the government into political concessions. Western politicians who today express outrage over even modest rises in fuel prices at the pump proudly and openly engineered the destruction of Iranian lives, complete with charts, graphs, and spreadsheets. Some boasted about it during election campaigns to curry favor with the Israel lobby. Others wrote books celebrating their handiwork, shamelessly titling their criminal enterprise “The Art of Sanctions.” Still others paraded figures in AIPAC conferences showing how their policies had collapsed Iran’s currency, eroded Iranians’ purchasing power, triggered runaway inflation, and devastated the economy. Rudy Giuliani, for one, flaunted a fake picture of an Iranian man holding a sign offering to sell his kidney for $500 and declared it proof that the sanctions had pushed the government “on the verge of toppling.” Mike Pompeo openly admitted that the sanctions were making life “much worse for the Iranian people,” adding that this was intentional: “we are convinced that will lead the Iranian people to rise up and change the behavior of the regime.” They all treated ordinary Iranians as pawns in their sinister game: first destroying people’s lives through crushing economic pressure, then deploying a sophisticated propaganda network to convince them that their own government was incapable of managing the economy, and finally calling on them to take to the streets in protest. In the process, they destroyed countless lives, shattered dreams, ruined businesses, tore families apart, and deprived millions of essential medicines. And all of it for what? For Iran enriching uranium under the strictest international monitoring - an activity that, by every technical assessment, offered absolutely no pathway to nuclear weapons. Iran - including its government and civil society - will no longer treat the deliberate destruction of its economy as an acceptable policy. It will view such actions as a direct affront to its vital national interests and respond accordingly.

The Iranian attack on the UAE, Oman, and in the Straight of Hormuz was done by the IRGC without the knowledge or coordination of the Iranian government. Iranian President Pezeshkian is "extremely angry" at the actions of Ahmad Vahidi, the commander of the IRGC, and has called for an urgent meeting to stop attacks on Persian Gulf countries. - Iran International

Cenk Uygur on the killing of six-year-old Hind Rajab in Gaza. “They hit the car that her family is traveling in, and everyone in the car is dead except a six-year-old. She calls in, and she’s begging, ‘Please send someone to help. Please. They’re all dead, and I’m so hungry and I’m so scared.’ The Israelis finally give permission for the ambulance to go get her, and then they bombed the ambulance and killed a six-year-old.” @cenkuygur @TheYoungTurks

The sooner we recognize this hard truth—that there’s no military solution to the conflict with Iran—the better off the United States will be. Sheer military force cannot reopen the Strait of Hormuz without escalating the war and sucking us into another endless, bloody quagmire that delivers zero benefit to our people. We can’t get rid of the emboldened government in Tehran, regardless of how many leaders we kill. If we try we will end up with a government or failed state, worse than what we have now. The inevitable reality is this: we will have to cut a deal with Iran. We can be pragmatic and do it now on our own terms, or we can keep listening to the same neocons and the Israeli government who got us into this mess, only to cut the same deal after we’ve lost even more. Recognizing that we have hit the point of diminishing returns and pulling out now is not weakness. It is strength—and it’s the right thing to do for the American people.

The push to re-open the Strait of Hormuz today, with two US warship crossing it and two US-flagged merchant vessels, signals the White House realises it can not keep waiting for the blockade to force Iran into the negotiation table. Effectively, it's an admission the blockade isn't working (if the blockade is seen as a means to get Iranian concessions, rather than an end in itself). The timeline of what the blockade would do to the Iranian oil industry was completely wrong.

If the US really wanted Hormuz open... don't you think they would just, you know, fuck off back to America? It wasn't closed to begin with. Maybe they want it closed? Because they're literally blockading it? Why do people struggle to grasp what is staring them in the face?
