Most Jews, who prefer to monopolize the term "moshiach" or "mashiah" ("anointed one") for their own exclusive benefit, deny that Jesus was the moshiach. Some apparently think that Donald Trump is the moshiach. ;-) But while "Messiah" was originally an anglicization of mashiah, Christians have given the term a more general meaning, "Christ" (a Greek word also translated as "anointed one"); hence, "Jesus Christ". At this point, the Christian meaning is much better known to a vastly greater number of people. To Christians, the term "messiah" now means a divinely anointed figure who brings salvation to everyone (not just Jews) and thereby establishes God's kingdom, believing in Jesus as the savior of humanity. It's a significant difference, but etymology and semantics sometimes diverge over time. This is a clear violation of the Golden Rule opposed by all real Christians. As you observe, the term "Saoshyant" is an Avestan term meaning "one who brings benefit" and refers to a future savior in Zoroastrianism. However, that's also defined in such a way as to overlap with the Christian redefinition of "messiah", if not the Jewish definition of "moshiach". In semantics, various terms with different original meanings can eventually come to overlap. But one thing is for sure: neither Christianity nor Zoroastrianism nor even Judaism overlaps with atheism, paganism, or "paganistic atheism", the oxymoronic mishmash that faux-describes some people who aren't sure exactly who or what they are. I suggest that in the future, you and your Zoroastrian friends time and word your valuable comments to avoid the semblance that you're jumping into a discussion on the "atheistic pagan" side of it.
