@Watch_n_Wait @HomoSocialist Yes, exactly. Owning a rental property isn’t some passive income cash cow. Typically the returns are small and it’s a lot of work keeping the properties up. Rental units typically start break even and only become profitable as inflation eats the debt value.

@HomoSocialist I've never understood how renting out a property on a mortgage works. In most cases the profits must be tiny, and you'd only need a string of repairs or an extended void period and you'd be into big losses.

If a landlord cannot afford the mortgage or the upkeep of a property without a sitting tenant, then guess what? They can’t afford the property.

People forget who has to pay the mortgage whilst it sits empty, who has to replace the roof in 5yrs, who had to pay for a new boiler etc

Gen X here... I've worked hard for 30 years to get where I am. I make good money, and I've earned it. I can afford a $28 lunch, but choose not to spend that much most of the time because it feels frivolous. Gen Z is on here complaining about why lunch costs $28, or why Chipotle or Jersey Mike's costs what it does. I get it, it's definitely more than it used to be. So adjust. Get water instead of a $5 soda. Find a local place that is more reasonable. Bring in a lunch from home once in a while. Solve the problem instead of whining and continuing to hurt yourself by spending that much money if you really shouldn't be.

@136Division I used to work at a company with a lot of Indian clients. I hated dealing with them. They’d demand huge discounts and claim I gave them to other people. I’d literally show them the contracts with no discount and they’d act offended and accuse me of trying to scam them! The worst!
