@BasilTheGreat @waitrose The whole policy of "keeping staff safe" is a smokescreen - it's mostly to keep the retailer safe from legal action. Supermarkets have reduced paying for goods to a mere gentleman's agreement. Also hear this store has no security Mon/Tues due to cost cutting.

My take is that this whole war is staged. Does that mean people aren't dying and bombs aren't being dropped? Of course not. Casualities are just pawns in this game. The truth of the matter is that this war is being used to cause an energy crisis and it's already happening. For a long time retail staff have been told not to pursue shoplifters, much less engage with them physically, because it not only risks legal issues but puts their safety at risk. Which you'd know, if you'd ever worked in retail...

Rhetorical question as we all know the answer but why is nearly every place packed out these days? Gyms, trains, roads etc. there seems to be no off-peak any more, just an endless stream of people competing for space and resources.

@SandyofSuffolk I think it's the same reason people use an expensive gym or go first class on the train, the actual product may be only marginally better but the high prices tend to keep out the riff-raff.

I don't actually understand why anybody would shop at Waitrose. You can buy the same quality and products in every other supermarket, but cheaper. 🤔

Went to the tip and was asked to prove where I live. I asked why and it’s because people from another borough have been using this one. Why can’t they all just make chucking stuff easy to reduce fly tipping 🙄

@BobFromAccounts Equally if not more strange that you can jump on a bike and ride around indefinitely without any regulation or knowledge at all, jumping lights, riding on pavements, doing wheelies. Anything goes.

Incredible that you can pass your driver's licence at 17 years old and drive for at least another 50 years without any re-test or checks whilst simultaneously developing so many bad driving habits that would have prevented you from getting your licence in the first place.

Can we stop with the marmalade thing. We can still use it it’s just we need to add “citrus” to marmalade as other fruits are used in the EU. Hardly newsworthy…

@RichardGCorbett It's not helpful in the UK because almost nobody has the the stuff made from figs and fruit. I don't remember even seeing it in the shops.

Given that other countries make marmalade from figs & other fruit, it’s actually quite helpful to take the simple step of specifying that ours is citrus (orange or lemon). Most labels already say “orange” Hardly newsworthy, but of course the usual suspects want to stir things up

@wideawake_media People need to start saving copies of these old documentaries showing daily life. I suspect governments may start pulling them from servers, trying to hide how far things have deteriorated.

There needs to be a new viral trend where people just post archival footage from 50+ years ago, showing how much better everything was before our civilisation was stolen from us. This was London in the 1950s. Compare this to the dump it is today.
