@spiceyicey27 If you follow the current NYC curriculum for ELA with fidelity, students will not read a single novel in fourth or fifth grades. The HMH texts are unwieldy and we barely ever even finish reading *those*.

I just took a practice SAT test for a tutoring job and almost every singe text was an informational text. Kids are not reading novels because the tests they’re taking don’t align with them

@reeceollld Teacher here: all the kids were taught how to read a clock in second grade and by fourth grade they have forgotten because they never see them in the wild. Even in school, they just look for a digital clock that is inevitably somewhere in the room.
