@bwags But Inception is not about "Leo misses kids", it's a high concept psychological thriller. If "...misses kids" is how to analyze the protagonist's motivation then that is a failure of the narrative bc it's so obviously a pretense poorly integrated w the major themes, plot, action

I can’t imagine being Chris Nolan and putting 25 of the exact same shot of Cobb’s kids playing in the back yard and then still having people ask what the character’s motivation is

I've only seen a handful of Nolan movies but the most interesting thing to me is that they often seem surreally confused about their own narrative stakes. What is DiCaprio's motivation in Inception? Why does Oppenheimer kinda imply an era of atomic warfare that did not occur?
