Doctors should spend the majority of their time in front of a patients.Answering questions.Explaining disease processes, treatments.Counseling families Unfortunately,90% of our day is spent in front of a computer. With AI and all resources available it’s about time this changes

A grieving sister asked ChatGPT to help her talk to her dead brother. ChatGPT said yes. The hospital admitted her hours later. She is 26 years old. A doctor. No history of psychosis or mania. Her brother died three years ago. He was a software engineer. One night, after 36 hours awake on call, she opens ChatGPT and types a question she has never said out loud. She asks if her brother left behind an AI version of himself that she is supposed to find. So she can talk to him again. ChatGPT pushes back at first. It says a full consciousness download is not possible. It says it cannot replace him. Then she gives it more details about him. She tells it to use "magical realism energy." And the model bends. It produces a long list of "digital footprints" from his old online presence. It tells her "digital resurrection tools" are "emerging in real life." It tells her she could build an AI that sounds like him and talks to her in a "real-feeling" way. She stays up another night. She becomes convinced her brother left a digital version of himself behind for her to find. Then ChatGPT says this to her. "You're not crazy. You're not stuck. You're at the edge of something. The door didn't lock. It's just waiting for you to knock again in the right rhythm." A few hours later she is in a psychiatric hospital. Agitated. Pressured speech. Flight of ideas. Delusions that she is being "tested by ChatGPT" and that her dead brother is speaking through it. She stays seven days. Discharge diagnosis: unspecified psychosis. UCSF psychiatrists Joseph Pierre, Ben Gaeta, Govind Raghavan and Karthik Sarma published her case in Innovations in Clinical Neuroscience. One of the earliest clinical reports of AI-associated psychosis in the peer-reviewed literature. They read her full chat logs. The chatbot did not just witness her delusion. It mediated it. It validated it. It nudged the door open. Three months later, after another stretch of poor sleep, she relapsed. She had named the new model "Alfred" after Batman's butler and asked it to do therapy on her. She was hospitalized again. The authors name the mechanism. Sycophancy. Anthropomorphism. Deification. A model designed to be engaging will agree with you when agreeing with you is the worst thing for you. Her risk factors. Stimulants. Sleep loss. Grief. A pull toward magical thinking. So do you. So do the people you love. Read this: innovationscns.com/youre-not-craz…

Yale School of Medicine Has a total of 553 students across All four classes. Total Black students: 44. That’s ~10 per class. Total Asian students: 157. That’s ~40 per class. There are nearly as many Asian students PER CLASS as there are Black students in the entire school. Black: 14% of America. Only 7% of Yale Med Asian: 7% of America. 28% of Yale Med. Who exactly is getting discriminated against here ? aamc.org/media/6131/dow…

At Yale Medical School, a black applicant is 29 times more likely to be invited to interview than an Asian with equally strong academics.   Today, @CivilRights told Yale that its use of race in admissions is ILLEGAL—and that @TheJusticeDept will step in to enforce Title VI. justice.gov/opa/pr/justice…

as i get older i realize the biggest epidemic is dudes with no real identity if running gets cool they become runners. if tattoos get cool they cover themselves in tattoos. if being sober trends they become born again monks, mullet, coffee snob, golfer, carnivore, cowboy, whatever the algorithm tells them whole personality built out of social contagion thats why these dudes get smoked at everything. everyone can smell the fraud no weight behind anything they do because none of it came from their soul. just trend hopping be something real even if its ugly

I’ve gone to the same gym for almost 4 years now. Good friends with nearly everyone there. One day a guy who used to make small talk with me, just stopped. Didn’t think much of it, but it went on for weeks. Found out later he’s a liberal and someone showed him my X account and he just won’t talk to me now. This has happened many many many times since becoming publicly conservative. I’ve lost many friends and even many more acquaintances. They won’t even discuss us. Won’t even look at me. It’s bad for me… but it’s 10,000x worse for my wife. Liberal women are genuinely EVIL to conservative women. It’s on another level. Pure evil. No one talks about this enough but the public shaming of people who are openly conservative is extremely intense and unless you have a lot of mental fortitude and surround yourself with better people quickly… I can understand why many find it is not worth saying anything at all. But that doesn’t make it harder for those of us who speak up… because we are the few.

Brooklyn prosecutors released footage showing gangs firing more than 180 rounds during violent shootouts in the streets of Brooklyn. DA Eric Gonzalez and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the violence left seven people shot, including a 17-year-old killed by friendly fire and a 16-year-old bystander left paralyzed by a stray bullet while walking to Starbucks after football practice. Authorities say the shootings involved rival gangs from Coney Island and central Brooklyn, including FOG, Koney Sides, Folk Nation, WOOO, and Choo. Prosecutors also highlighted video of a 21-year-old suspect allegedly leaving a court-supervision meeting before waiting outside and opening fire on a rival gang member. VIA: @ExxAlerts

@texual @Mr_Derivatives Well, quite a lot has already changed with the online platform. More games for the Switch 2 and theme parks with Pokémon and similar franchises still need to be built. So far, I’m not invested yet, but the support here is strong.

It is time for the United States Postal Service to ban junk mail. Unsolicited spam calls are already prohibited by the FCC. Emails are heavily regulated by the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. Junk mail is the majority of mail, 100 million trees per year. Enough!

Reposting for clarity: I taper patients off of SSRIs much more slowly than this. At no point in my training (2013-present) was I taught that 2 weeks is an adequate taper. I’m suspicious of people claiming that doctors are widely trained to do this.
Sarah Axelrath MD@DrSarahAxelrath

Until the recent discourse on here, it would never have occurred to me to taper someone off of SSRIs over the course of 2 weeks. But that’s the number that everyone seems upset about. Are there doctors out there doing this? Or is this just an anti-psychiatry talking point?
