it's not about your product, it's about your customer. Who are they? Where do they hang out? What problems are they struggling with? What's most important to them? If you can't answer these questions, you'll never be able to bring a differentiated product to market.

The deeper I go into the Product Marketing, the less I see CMO as the career path. We live in the middle of Product, Marketing, & Sales = CRO, COO, CEO make way more sense. Perhaps it’s a role yet to be defined: Customer Officer? Go-to-Market Officer? 🤔 #marketing #saas

@araskin In my experience, most PMMs would rather go on to growth or strategy c-levels roles as opposed to the CMO track. But it depends on the org’s structure

I have a belief, based purely on anecdotal evidence, that product marketers (in mktg depts) tend to get passed over for CMO promotion in favor of other marketing practitioners (brand identity, demand gen, etc). There are exceptions I’m sure, but am I wrong about the pattern?
