Portland City Councilor Mitch Green @mitch4portland campaigned on his background as a PhD economist. His amendment that passed this Tuesday didn't do basic accounting and created a large budget hole that council had to clean up. I'm recording my 6-month City Council Rankings in the next few days and I'll discuss this more at length, but the bottom line is this discredits his ability with even basic level economics.

@thadfisco I believe that the organizations and individuals who advocated, funded and pushed RCV knew exactly what they were doing. Many cities that have been overtaken by progressives use RCV. New York City & Oakland California just 2 examples.

The problem is not how council votes it’s how Portland votes. Multi member rank choice single transferable voting gives overpowered voices to extreme fringe radical notions of governance. Defunding or diverting PPB $ is proof. Portland was royally played at the ballot box

@Mckennon411 100% correct. When developers wanted to work with the city to help build workforce and low income housing the city literally said no, the remedy must be punitive. Punitive is how Portland treats businesses until they suddenly need them. Like you said dollar short day late

@thadfisco And even if you could build, Oregon tenant / landlord protection laws have become so unbalanced, that it’s paralyzing landlords.

It maybe begin by apologizing to said developers for wrecking their businesses, devaluing their investments and alienating them. It seems so insanity disingenuous to grovel and beg them to do business in Portland at this moment. The chance to work collaboratively has passed.
