@thatmjk

Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes. I believe we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.

@alex_prompter Alex, this is perfect encapsulation of this absurdity. But they'll get away with it because nobody accused them of stealing until after they did it. And at that point nobody could figure out how to put the genie back in the bottle.

Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it. Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying. Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence." Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter." Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter. They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created. One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility." Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies. That's the metered intelligence business model. And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.

@thatmjk @AdamSchefter @NFL I think every white person, who didn't make an NFL team, has a case. Same with the NBA. How deep down this hole do you want to go?

@RepChuckEdwards The people who defended the Capitol on January 6 defended the Constitution. Chuck is silent on Trump's slush fund and how it will be used to pay off felons who raided the Capitol and physically abused police officers. He only protects some defenders of the Constitution.

No American should lose a constitutional right because of an administrative decision about their finances — especially our veterans. I spoke on the House floor in support of the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act. Our veterans defended the Constitution — they deserve its full protection in return.

@MikeNellis Maybe it isn't? Too many companies are putting arbitrary usage tracking and goals in place and employees are doing "tokenmaxxing" to climb up a foolish leaderboard. Uber got what it deserved when it mandated use and tracked it. Maybe I'm wrong? Hope I'm wrong?

@AdamSchefter In a league that is almost entirely black, has several black coaches and have had several black head coaches, is racist? Got it. Maybe it's because he's an assh***.

@jain_harshit What is Altman's motivation for candor on this topic. Disregarding that he appears to avoid candor on any topic, on this particular topic he has pre-IPO motivation to not be honest about what he thinks.

If Higgins thinks that everything is fine, I can't invest the time in reading his book. We need to be regulating AI. We need to be regulating data center construction. We need cooperation that compares with nuclear nonproliferation if we want to get this right.

As someone who is has been in the tech industry's working class for 30+ years and is working with AI every day, I concur with Hinton (and the oligarchs) in that AI is dangerously powerful. We are rushing blindly towards a potentially catastrophic future.

I guess @EoinHiggins_ has a book to sell? And the @nytimes let him write a column that summarizes the book? He says that AI oligarchs have scared progressives into believing that AI may be dangerous, in order to pump their stock? And he compares Geoff Hinton to a bad Elon tweet.

@JillPhys1905 @washingtonpost I continued the conversation: Yes, exactly. It's not inevitable that AGI (or even advanced narrow AI) will lead to mass replacement of human workers in a zero-sum sense, but there is a legitimate, active debate about the scale, speed, and nature of job displacement .....
