Did I just become the first person in the world to complete a Beat Saber level with my Oculus CV1 under Linux? I think so! youtu.be/dc_Dpfl1I8o @OpenHMD

@Zimtok5 Ah! They've added the Microsoft EDID extension that marks it as a VR display to Windows. That's pretty clear evidence to me that Sony are about to release a direct PC adapter, and not a streaming solution!

@Zimtok5 I'm having the opposite experience on Linux. Suddenly I can use it as both a cinematic monitor in 1080p and a VR headset at 4k120 without needing a custom kernel and EDID override. The 4k90 mode works now too! I wonder what Windows doesn't like for you.

Hmm! What's this, Sony? 🤔 VirtualLink to PC stopped working after an update. Perhaps groundwork for direct PC connectivity for PSVR2? Or blocking connection to PC while streaming from PCs gets enabled. Or maybe I'm just overthinking this after the last firmware update today.

Day #121: And we're in! - PSVR2 was blocking VR modes by saying it couldn't do DSC - We modified an AMD Open Source Linux GPU driver to force DSC - Now we know how to put the PSVR2 into VR mode, so we can design some hardware to do it on Windows - "Can PSVR2 be used on PC?" - Yes

Woo! I just became the first person in the world to play a (screen recording of) Half-Life: Alyx on a PSVR2 in Linux, after hacking my kernel to get 4000x2040@120Hz output working

@boberfly There's a few steps to it right now. If you have an AMD 6x00 series GPU with USB-C port and want to try, jump on the @monadoXR discord (link @ the bottom of monado.dev)

@thaytan very cool! I am prepared to hack my kernel if this has been shared?

@NathieVR Satisfying! But still a lot to go to get a real driver - this was just (finally!) lighting up the screen and playing videos.

@HaareBlond @iVRy_VR Yep! That's a screen capture of what was drawn to the PSVR2. I'll try and get some through-the-lens photo

@Love_Hart942 @iVRy_VR I couldn't have done this if I wasn't working with @iVRy_VR ! All the protocol investigation they've done enabled it! I just got lucky to be in the right place to hit the right key after months of collectively trying things that haven't worked. Huge credit goes to @iVRy_VR !

@beregudaio A long way from any of that - this is only just managing to light up the screen at the full resolution. Not even 3dof IMU tracking there yet.

@thaytan Awesome! Is the controllers tracking working as well? Also, what GPU have you used for playing it? Hope it would be possible to mod HL Alyx to get the eye-tracking features of the PSVR 2 on PCVR, damm... that would be wonderful for better performance...

@karolgasinski There's been an ongoing collaborative effort on the @MonadoXR discord, that's been stalled on getting the VR output mode working. Turns out it needs DSC, but the headset's DPCD doesn't advertise it. Instead, they hard-coded the params into the PS5 GPU driver.

@johndmcmaster @gstreamer You should read #user-content-How_to_use_libusb_on_Windows" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/libusb/libusb/… before thinking of libuvc as a nice tidy cross-platform option. In general, I think I'd be aiming to extend one of the native API plugins with the controls you need like WinKS or MediaFoundation on Windows

pyuscope (@gstreamer core) would like cross platform USB Video Class (UVC) support with device specific controls (ex: exposure level). Is there an alternative before making a gstreamer plugin/wrapper for libuvc?

@halfline I have heard someone say 100deg for Vision, and resolution appears to be best in class at 4k per eye

last time i used a vr headset (admittedly quite a while ago) the field of view was super narrow (guessing here...like 85degrees stretched across my field of view) and the pixels were so close to my eyes I could see them. Is that already solved? Does the apple thing solve it?

With that, and the protocol data I gathered a few weeks ago, I think I'm finally ready to attempt WMR constellation tracking

LLMs are an AI technique, but we should not let people get away with selling them as “AI”. The sometimes intentionally confusing use of the term is going to fuck up a lot of stuff.
