Just got my PhD in BME @ Duke, worked on biotech applications of #condensates. Did a ton of “old school” hands on protein eng: biophys, purification, manual structure design. I wanna get into #proteindesign and I’m familiar with protein AI and CS. What types of jobs do I look at?

We now have a method to drive amplification of gene expression at the translational level in E. coli! Next up, we're modulating the level of amplification and engineering condensates to produce hard-to-make proteins that don't impact E. coli growth 🧪🦠 x.com/theDanShapPhas…

Our mechanistic hypothesis is that in E. coli, mRNA with a PRS is transcribed already loaded with ribosomes; Pum2-ELP sequesters both mRNA and ribosomes into a condensate, which we've shown is highly liquid. This acts as a "reaction crucible" to amplify translation! (9/🧵)
