@TheRJRobinson @Inhumansoflate1 it's not, it symbolizes authority; Romulus already had 12 lictors carrying fasces follow him around, which inthe republic was transferred to the consuls. The fascis itself is a portable punishment kit, basically, with ropes and sticks for flogging and axe for capital punishment

@Inhumansoflate1 It's a symbol of the Roman Republic - it meant republicanism long before Mussolini coopted it for fascism. It was a popular symbol of liberty among many 18th century political thinkers, not least the American revolutionaries.

@peterawolf wouldn't the straightforward reason that she doesn't consider the American revolution a revolution in her sense be that it was, well, all the way over there? a colony overthrowing its distant overlord is very different from killing the king and completely restructuring society

Given that the peasant class in British North America was only present in Québec and the Hudson Valley (and both relics of defeated French and Dutch imperialisms, to boot), Skocpol’s formulation means that a social revolution in such a setting would be theoretically impossible.

red riding hood was a story about how you shouldn’t fucking dilly dally when you’re walking through the woods or else a wolf will eat you, because that was a real problem back then that you had to warn children about

@shaqfan1937 Bollocks. Wolves do no consider humans as prey, in fact, they avoid human contact whenever they can. The only recorded attacks of wolves on humans - children or adults - were caused by rabies infection or provocation/attack by the humans in question.

What's the weirdest, benign thing people around you believe which is so patently fake as to be not remotely rooted in reality. I keep having people go "did you know pigeons used to be pets/domesticated but were abandoned by humans" which borders on being fractally wrong, but is-

one of the most annoying rhetorical things of the past million years is that every time you'd call republicans nazis they'd be like "UMMMMM wow so just because you disagree with us, we're hitler??" when it was incredibly obvious to anyone with a brain that yes of couse they are

NEW: POLITICO obtained private group chat messages between leaders of Young Republican groups across the country. They talk about putting their opponents in gas chambers, raping their enemies and refer to Black people as “monkey” and “the watermelon people”politico.com/news/2025/10/1…

@Alilandulo @kamilkazani nono thats not it: the point is, citizens should not get the idea that their shouting will accomplish anything, even if the support is entirely legitimate; that is something they simply should not be doing

@kamilkazani More likely - why would you protest in favor of a ruler? That Is highly suspicious. Ergo you must ne provocateur, foreigner, or madman. In all cases, you must be detained.

Of course First, there is a great benefit in suppressing any kind of activism at all. In Russia, if you start doing unsolicited demonstrations in favour and in support of Vladimir Putin, you are already one leg in prison Huuuuge personal risk in all of that

@kamilkazani Is there any benefit in suppressing this type of speech? Generally speaking

@theLyralisk @Terence77350719 @HenryYin19 I disagree - a lot of this Greco Roman world stuff I learned in college although in the past you would have been expected to know all of it prior. All the cultural stuff #3 onward relevant to Homer and the Iliad was covered when we read the Iliad.

@HenryYin19 Fair enough. But I wonder how many could pass it had they taken the class of the man who wrote this exam? Because that's what it looks like: the exam of a man who gave very detailed lectures that he then expects his students to study and recall at the end of the semester.

voice is the biggest thing when it comes to passing if you have masculine features but have and extremely feminine voice, most people assume you’re a cıshon or something if you have extremely feminine features but have a masculine voice, people will assume you’re trans/etc
