@malteristo @socraticexp And we had to read about him saying that.
English

@socraticexp Didn't socrates offer sharp critique of reading and writing and insisted that philosophical knowledge is superior when transmitted through live, spoken dialogue? How times can change.

If your child becomes a reader, about 80% of the educational job is already done. That's our honest assessment, based on many of us working in education for over three decades. Everything else is secondary. Most parents think science education is important. Yes, it is. But if you can't read the biology textbook, you're not going to learn biology.
Reading is the meta-skill that enables all other skills. History requires reading. Science requires reading. Even math increasingly requires reading as it becomes more sophisticated. The child who reads voraciously will figure out everything else. The child who doesn't will struggle with everything.

@CFoxtrot52 @UltraDane Once lived in one. An uber-karen was in charge.
When we were selling she broke in, took realtor cards off counter, harassed them.
Police involved. Even more shady stuff was found (fraud with funds), people went to jail. Entire HOA board replaced.
Happy endings happen.
English

@Pwnidus @UltraDane And of course police exist to enforce HOA rules. /s
English

@UltraDane It's Arizona it probably is against HoA rules considering they use rocks in the yards as you can see across the street. Grass wastes water there.

@WallStreetApes I was awake and watching the numbers when this happened. Watched only the democrat numbers suddenly go.
Next day my sister in law, from that county, told us she was denied voting because when she showed up they had already received her vote by mail. She did not receive a ballot.
English

WOAH 🚨 38,000 ballots arrived at 3:45 a.m. after Election Day in Michigan during the 2020 election
- OVER 100% VOTER TURNOUT
- 40,000 voters registered to vote 2 DAYS BEFORE the election
- Over 100,000 votes “mismatched” in poll books
- NONE of the names on processed ballots were found in the regular electronic poll books
- 17,327 dead people voted, verified with Michigan online obituaries
- Poll challengers were not allowed to continue legal duties
- Ballots with no attached names
- Ballots with impossible details, like a person born in 1921 but supposedly registered to vote in 1900 (21 years before birth)
- Ballots observed being backdated from November 4 to November 2, with poll workers entering data, including fake dates
- As much as a 120% voter turnout (clear voter fraud)

@ebrockwayink ...excuse me?
Xerxes took Sparta?
Which history book is this from?
My history book says he didn't take Sparta, he did destroy Athens (which the Athenians had to evacuate to not all die) and in the end was expelled by a coalition led by Sparta.
English

Ah yes. The eternal “molon labe” cosplay and the Spartan fetish.
Here’s the part they skip:
Xerxes came.
And he took them.
Sparta built a society optimized almost entirely for war. It looked invincible right up until it wasn’t. The Athenians, messy as they were, outlasted them and won more often when it mattered.
But sure, keep quoting Frank Miller panels like it’s a force design plan.
History already ran this simulation.
English

@WeaponsVault 6.9 ounces. 7+1 capacity and minor recoil that makes it easy to practice with. People dog on it, but that's okay. It even carries in sweatpants.

English

@NavyStrang Cool...but what if you had a war college that had repeatedly and consistently failed to put out officers that win wars?
Would you maybe, just maybe, think about going "alright, well next best idea is to put the officers that at least won battles in charge"?
Maybe?
English

The percentage of officers (esp O-5 and below) who had combat experience prior to WWII is round-able to zero. Those who did it was in WWI trench warfare. The most valuable interwar experience came from exercises and *gasp* War Colleges. Combat experince can't be counted on.
MEDPROS Center of Excellence@Asst_to_the_RM
Don’t conflate “combat experience” for relevancy. FURTHERMORE, combat experience in CENTCOM means exactly shit 0 in INDOPACOM LSCO.

Since December 29, 2025, two American pilots have been illegally detained in a Guinea, West Africa prison. The pilots were dragged off their plane after making a scheduled fuel stop in Conakry, the nation’s capital. According to flight logs and radio recordings, air traffic control had granted the pilots permission to land. What came next should not be tolerated.
Moments after landing, approximately 100 armed soldiers surrounded the plane with automatic rifles and armored vehicles. The pilots, who do not speak French, were forcibly removed from the plane and taken into custody. Guinea’s government accused the American pilots of entering national airspace and landing without authorization. Recorded ATC communications show clearance was given to the pilots and they had explicit permission to land in the country.
More than six weeks later, both pilots remain prisoners abroad. Guinea’s prisons are described as harsh dangerous conditions, including lack of electricity and running water, severe overcrowding, and inmates rotating sleep due to limited space. Three civilian judges have ruled the pilots committed no crime, and an appellate court has ordered their release yet the military has refused. The multi-million dollar U.S. registered Gulfstream IV jet remains seized by the Guinean government.
Pilot Fabio Espinal Nunez (from New Jersey) and Pilot Bradley Scott Schlenker (from Illinois) remain in a Guinea prison to this day. Their families are urging U.S. officials, including President Trump, to bring the pilots home and to send the Guinean government a message: Detaining American pilots is not tolerated.

@BebopJosh @goddek Multiplication taking precedence over addition in math notation was established in the 17th century.
I did not realize generations from before that were still around. I truly am impressed.
English

@goddek Unless order of operation is dictated otherwise, it goes from left to right. The final problem multiplies zero so the answer is zero.
This is literally what we were taught in my generation.
You pretend to be superior because your generation changed how math works.

@DrAlmarielao Don't care. Your "let's think about what's fair to the killer!" type stuff has nearly destroyed western civilization.
Throw him off a cliff. Drive over him with a truck. Get him out of the societal pool. Repeat ad nauseum. Some women will feel bad, but we'll avoid a dystopia.

A 14-year-old boy, speeding in a car with friends, decides to show off. Catching up to a woman on the road, he yells, curses, and pulls out a gun firing into her car. When police arrive, she’s dead. The boy is arrested, tried, and sentenced to life in prison.
One life was tragically taken, and another is effectively ended before it had a chance to fully begin. This is a heartbreaking case that raises so many questions about accountability, judgment, and development. On one hand, justice demands consequences. On the other, a child’s brain isn’t fully developed, especially when it comes to impulse control and understanding long-term consequences. Shouldn’t there be more focus on rehabilitation for teenagers, even in cases this severe? How do we balance justice with the chance for redemption? What do you think? Is 14 old enough to face a life sentence? Can someone so young truly understand the gravity of their actions, or the weight of spending their life in prison?
English

@flapprdotnet This has probably done more to bring awareness to the masses of the idea that AI could potentially do things like cure cancer than anything else ever has.

@iAnonPatriot My sexual orientation is killing pedophiles.
Checkmate, losers. Accept my orientation.

@marloweKit @CCrowley100 I didn't say anything about liberal/MAGA. Just picking up shoes to see if they fit now?
The system is "ineffective" depending on race. What do you call that?
I call it racism.
Calling that out isn't racism.
False accusing those calling it out effectively defends the racism.
English

@theOneTrueBryan @CCrowley100 Neither a liberal or a MAGA be. The crime was racist, the system clearly ineffective. Still the racist overtones of the OT do not serve the victim or other peaceful members of the perp's race. Buh bye now.
English

@marloweKit @CCrowley100 Projecting much? We're talking about the racist system that kept a racist violent offender on the street after 14 major arrests solely because of the color of his skin. What are YOU talking about?
English

@theOneTrueBryan @CCrowley100 You don't get to blame every black person for the crimes of one with drugs and mental issues.
English

@RLeg73 @GrampsToolshed @smallmthbass He's got the opposite hand's finger in the trigger guard and the thumbs is what got you?
English

@kareem_carr There are properties within each category that are bimodal. There's also properties that are binary.
Thus it is possible to categorize by those binary properties, and make words for that binary classification. Which is EXACTLY what has ALWAYS been meant when referring to sex.
English

@marloweKit @CCrowley100 She deserved better than to die because pussies like you keep excusing racism.
Everyone gets to fight racism against themselves and be applauded for doing so...except white people. Because there's always one of you to spin it back.
Nah, that time is done. Fuck off.
English

@CCrowley100 I like the video but not the racist overtones. #IrynaYarutska deserves better than this.
English

@Mstan6543 @NBBear2 @ZeekArkham No shit Sherlock. You don't change the birth certificate. You just provide documentation of the name change itself. Which you have because you were the one that went through the process of changing your name, and if lost is no harder to get another than a lost birth cert is.
English

Democrats: “We can’t pass the SAVE Act because black folks don’t have ID.”
Black folks: “No… we have ID… all of us…”
Democrats: “Well… we can’t pass the SAVE Act because women who get married won’t have proper ID.”
Married women: “No… we have ID that matches our new last name. Wasn’t an issue.”
Democrats: “Well… we can’t pass the SAVE Act because poor people don’t have access to Kinkos.”
Poor people: “Listen, we’re poor, but not *that* poor…”
Democrats: “DAMMIT, YOU ALL WERE SUPPOSED TO FALL IN LINE!”
