From the day it was announced pretty much nobody was either excited it was coming to their platform or jealous it wasn't coming to theirs.

I don't know if I've come across a Muslim in the past 3 weeks (besides my parents) who has told me they're going to vote for Kamala. Something has really shifted. Obviously the reason is obvious. But it's striking to me that Democrats largely seem indifferent to this reality.

Oh God even Obama now is endorsing the worst McCain story ever - McCain said ‘he’s a decent man’ but didn’t actually rebut the racist premise of the question that there was something wrong with being Arab. It has annoyed me for *years* that liberals think this was McCain rejecting bigotry when it wasn’t. At all. As @BenAffleck pointed out on Maher years later, it was a fundamentally anti-Arab thing for McCain to say, and Obama to now repeat.
Questioner: “He’s an Arab”
McCain: “No, he’s a decent family man, citizen.”
So Arabs aren’t decent family men? Aren’t citizens? If Obama was an Arab, that would be bad?

Obama: John McCain. I don't want to over romanticize our relationship. John was conservative to put it mildly. He ran against me in 2008 and talked about me on the campaign trail. You know what, he understood that some values transcend party. He believed an honest argument and hearing the views of other people. He didn't demonize political opponents. Do you remember at the end of the campaign when a woman at one of his rallies said, you can't vote for that Arab, he's not even a citizen and he said hold on, I have had a lot of disagreements with Senator Obama but I served with him, he is a good man and an honorable man and a patriotic American, shut it down. He knew that if we get in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, democracy can't work. The man had character.
