Starbucks plans to close five stores in Seattle in a matter of weeks, including four unionized locations, escalating tensions between the company and some workers in its hometown. In a statement, the baristas' union Workers United criticized Starbucks leadership and said it has filed an unfair labor practice charge over the closures. Workers United, which represents hundreds of unionized Starbucks stores nationwide, said baristas in the affected stores are organizing with labor groups and elected leaders. A Starbucks spokesperson told KOMO News the company is constantly evaluating its portfolio of stores and decides to close them based on a combination of factors like customer experience and financial performance.
