#GreatEggcaseHunt has reached Australia! Some eggcases have a smooth appearance. Others have ridges or keels. Some have curled tendrils to anchor to kelp/coral. Some are even corkscrew-shaped! Check out the diversity of species in our NEW ID guides sharktrust.org/geh-id @CSIRO

After nearly 35 years of preparing shark specimens, I have finally managed to acquire two beautiful whole Frilled sharks ( Chlamydoselachus anguineus) to prepare as skeletons. These specimens will be CT scanned first then prepared. The Holy Grail of sharks

Rabbit holes: how a casual 1 minute conversation about #remoras over morning tea can turn into an hour+ in the lab identifying preserved specimens in the Fish Collection. Would have been easier if they were bigger! Cute little flipflop heads <3 #taxonomy at #CSIROcollections

@thegingerfish_ I once read the remoras (larger specimens) were used by fishermen in certain parts of Africa to catch other large fish and turtles. They tied a string to the remora and dropped it over the side, where it would attach itself to another fish or turtle. Myth?
