@atsillypoint He also needs to bat higher in 50 over cricket, batting him below Curran and Jacks when so much of the innings was left is baffling. Sure in the last 15 overs promote them to whack it but Dawson actually knows how to build an innings not smack a quick 30

England spent years searching for a left-arm spinner who could bat. Liam Dawson, 10,000 first-class runs, was right there the whole time. Liam Dawson should have played far more limited-overs cricket for England by now. He has always been a genuinely useful cricketer in these formats, and years were squandered by simply not selecting him. Think about the T20 era we just lived through. Every side in the world craved the same profile: a left-arm spinner who could hold a bat. Franchises paid fortunes for it. England had exactly that player sitting in their own county system, and overlooked him again and again. And the batting is the part people undersold most. Dawson has 18 centuries and 56 half-centuries in first-class cricket, with over 10,000 first-class runs. Add 4 hundreds and 20 fifties in List A cricket. This is not a bowler who slogs a bit. He can bat. The record he has just set says everything about the wasted years and the ability in one line: Liam Dawson is England’s oldest ODI half-centurion since Alec Stewart made 60 against Namibia at the 2003 World Cup. That is a stat of vindication, and of what might have been. The talent was never the question. The selection was.

@englandcricket Batting Liam Dawson below Curran and Jacks in 50 over cricket is some sort of mad thinking. The man actually knows how to construct a proper innings

Defeat in Birmingham. Runs from Ben Duckett, Joe Root and Liam Dawson weren’t enough as India win by 6 wickets.

@christopherhope It’s shameful that he will face no scrutiny but also he can make no changes during that 51 days. He cannot implement policy, he is in effect treading water for the best part of 2 months making no difference to peoples lives. His honeymoon period will be spent in his office 🤷‍♂️

@KEdge23 I like the fact that they have worked towards creating 3 new forests in England by naming the location of 2 of them so far. Planting a lot of new trees will do more for the environment than any policy Ed Moronband comes up with

@GavinBarwell @KemiBadenoch You have been bad mouthing the party for 10 years, it’s about time you got kicked out. You failed in your role and blamed everyone else but you. Bye bye Gavin it’s just a shame we cannot remove you from the actual Lords

It turns out I did have the Whip taken off me yesterday despite no one having the courtesy to talk to me. Some thoughts on what it means for me (tl;dr sad, but won't stop me speaking my mind) and what it says about @KemiBadenoch linkedin.com/posts/gavinbar…

@MDC12345678 @ajwillshire @KemiBadenoch I don’t really like this whole purging concept or removing the whip for saying something that’s not illegal. However for Barwell I make an exception he has spent 10 years slagging off anyone who doesn’t sign up to his world view.

Gavin Barwell has lost the Conservative whip after months of attacking @KemiBadenoch's decisive break with the Net Zero consensus. At root, this is about whether the party is willing to embrace energy and climate realism. It is good to see the Conservatives putting affordability, security and growth ahead of green dogma. mol.im/a/15974189

@tomhfh I remember when I had swelling on my knee after an injury. Initial thoughts following a look suggested not a major issue. It ended up requiring reconstructive surgery after a proper investigation which takes longer than 1 look

Worth remembering Devon and Cornwall Police consistently said there was "no evidence" and "no information" to suggest political or terror motivation. They never ruled it out, but said they had no evidence to point to it. That seems to have changed today. x.com/tomhfh/status/…
Tom Harwood@tomhfh

Police say they they remain "open minded" as to the motive. When asked specifically on whether this is a politically motivated murder, the police say they have "no information" to believe that the motivation was political or otherwise.

"Following new information and evidence"
Shabana Mahmood MP@ShabanaMahmood

This morning I have spoken to the head of @TerrorismPolice. Following new information and evidence, they are now leading on the investigation into the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe. The police are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack. I will be updating the House further this afternoon. My thoughts today remain with Ann’s family and friends, and all those who loved her.

I have reported Dan Hodges to the police for harassment of @Nigel_Farage Hodges has posted about Nigel Farage and Reform 52 times across approximately 43 posts and replies on X in just eight days. Many are direct quote-tweets and aggressive replies clearly targeting Farage personally. A significant number of these posts accuse Farage and Reform MP's of politicising the murder of Ann Widdecombe, and repeated attacks on Nigel Farage’s security procedures and finances with personal derogatory comments, and appear to incite others against him and the party. This sustained, highly targeted campaign goes far beyond the acceptable boundaries of legitimate journalism and constitutes obsessive online stalking, harassment and incitement.

@thegrocersson National security for steel making would also be a more compelling argument had Labour not opposed a sovereign coking coal mine - meaning we cannot make steel without relying on imports in any case.

You are Prime Minister. Do you: (a) Invest in unbelievably good research in areas like quantum, photonics and AI in the Harwell Campus with world class facilities like the Diamond Light Source. (b) Spend £2.5 billion subsidising fundamentally unprofitable steel making?
