IRCC quietly posted something significant last night. They're proposing to 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 the Federal Skilled Worker Class(FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC), and replace all three with a single new federal high-skilled immigration class with "𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀." Consultations with partners, stakeholders and the public are planned for Spring 2026. I have thoughts on this, and some of them aren't comfortable. Express Entry was introduced in 2015. The economy it was designed for no longer exists. AI is reshaping entire job categories. The labour market Canada needs to attract talent for today looks nothing like it did ten years ago. But the structural problem runs deeper than outdated criteria. The system has a fraud crisis that doesn't get talked about loudly enough. Fabricated reference letters and fake job titles signed off by employers who never existed. Language test scores that bear no resemblance to the person sitting in front of you. Diploma mills selling credentials that look legitimate on paper and fall apart the moment anyone asks a follow-up question. And because the system relies heavily on self-reported information with verification happening late, sometimes after PR is granted, bad actors have become very good at slipping through. The honest candidates, the ones who actually had the skills Canada needed, were competing against people who manufactured their profiles from scratch. That's a complete breakdown of the process that is touting as attracting global skilled talent. A rebuild only means something if it addresses this head-on. Streamlined eligibility requirements sound good, but simpler intake with weak verification just means faster fraud. What I want to see is earlier, smarter verification. Employer accountability. Credential checks that happen before an ITA, not after. Beyond integrity, here's what else needs to change: ✅ Criteria tied to real labour market intelligence, not proxy metrics used as tiebreakers ✅ Clarity for employers who quietly gave up on the system years ago ✅ Less architecture that rewards point-farming over genuine contribution Nothing should stay static for a decade in economic immigration. The world moved. The system has to move with it, and this time, close the doors fraud walked through. I'll be participating in the consultation. If you have thoughts, as a candidate, employer, citizen, resident or fellow practitioner, this would be the time to make them heard. Link: canada.ca/en/immigration…

So apparently you can't be CEO of Air Canada if you don't speak French but It's perfectly cool to have immigrant drs, DMV agents, and public-facing government workers who can't even speak English or French.

Forget French, are there any interviews Carney has given in English that don’t have hundreds of “u, um, uhs..” If you’re changing where the bar is set, then at least be consistent.

@MarkJCarney Are you, as Prime Minister of the country, sufficiently bilingual? Or do you just hold others to higher standards than yourself? Shame on you for politicizing a tragedy like this.

Air Canada said Monday that CEO Michael Rousseau will retire this fall, following his English-only condolence after a deadly New York crash. PM Carney said, "He was an effective operator… but leadership carries many responsibilities… The next Air Canada CEO must be bilingual."

Cancel culture pulls off another win. I’m not even an AC fan but the cancel mob is actually making me feel sorry for them. How about focus on issues of real substance instead? Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau to step down - The Globe and Mail apple.news/AlG9WA3fcR0Ota…

Canada could give $1 million per year to 1,400 independent media outlets for the amount it gives the CBC. Just imagine how much investigative journalism we could get with 1,400 seeds planted like that. Rather than funding Rosy Barton and gang

Canada's Governor General doesn't speak French. Neither does our Prime Minister for that matter. Where's the CBC's outrage?

One person broke Canada’s immigration system. For those upset with recent policy changes or Bill C-12, there’s only one party to blame and they’re currently in office.

Everything wrong with Canada summed up in one article. How can a PM have “record high approval”, while at the same time food banks are in “record demand”. Canadian media is state sponsored media. No different from that of China or other countries.

Ezra is spot on. These people populate your human resource department; the human rights commissions; your boards of self-regulated professions; the funding chairs of university departments; school boards; colleges of education certifying teachers, and the majority of elected municipal officials. They also dominate the NGOs like egale Canada, and CAHN, AND the editorial boards of major media in Canada.

I used to laugh when I saw this sort of thing in university. But university students grow up and become teachers, bureaucrats, lawyers and judges. This is your ruling class now.
