Gun owners in the US cannot comprehend any living condition other than first world standards. When you talk about "preparedness", they immediately think of the apocalypse. No concept of having a job, electricity, and internet, but also maybe getting dysentery from tap water.

What matters is that it's an objectively violent country that the only way to stay safe is to hire armed security to guard your home.

There's middle ground in this dichotomy, of course. There's various uses for all sorts of gear. And urban guys can have a rural mindset. But preparedness isn't a COD fantasy. The rural preparedness mindset is all about utility and being a legitimate asset to your friends & family

It was 6 degrees plus a windchill when this was taken. I was sweating like a dog at the time after tackling some pretty tough terrain on the mountain. You have to suck it up and wear less layers to vent your sweat, otherwise your sweat will eventually freeze when you stop

@enbridgethe3rd You aren't being descriptive at all about why you think the mil issued level 5 is actually bad. The Patagonia PCU level 5 that's military contracted is great quality, on par with literally all of the brands I mentioned.

The truth is societies just don’t collapse anymore.
There are exactly 0 developed countries that have collapsed in history. There have been crisis, but never a generalized sustained collapse like the one these guys prep for.
I get the appeal, but the expected value is bad.

@enbridgethe3rd Civilian active layers that are good for ~0 degree Fahrenheit that aren't astoundingly expensive just end up being typical nylon shells with mesh vents, more or less the exact same as ecws. I have expensive KUIU and Sitka soft shells that don't even have vents

chainsaw is deadass one of the most useless tools to have in an apocalypse scenario. There aint a single thing it can do that you cant do with something else without wasting gasoline, which has much better uses than cutting wood a little faster than an axe
