@0_voria @phoenixwrong404 And I’d say BCS was a slow burn but it advanced the plot compellingly and I was riveted; Pluribus spent the first several episodes over-explaining the one-note main character and plot and I had to give up. And I ADORE Rhea Seehorn. She deserves better, glad she got it in BCS

@phoenixwrong404 most of the criticism comes from people that had their attention span drained and can't handle slow burns.

THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY (1964). I've known about John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee crime novels for years. I finally picked up this first one two days ago, fully expecting to be enamored with its shaggy tough-guy lyricism. Upon finishing it last night, it exceeded all expectations.

@zeta_globin sometimes, when i wake up at night, still half sleep, i can sense how my atoms realize that the body and mind we are part in this moment is just a construction on the universe and that we should feel lucky for although briefly we could percibe and get a grasp of the universe

it's insane that there's just absolutely nothing after we die, like you can't ask someone what the experience was like like that's it, it all just ceases and you leave behind a bag of bones

Don’t know what to do w myself cuz I lost the will to tweet but my attention span is cratered from years of scrolling the feed so I can’t “read a book” but “watching a movie” feels like too much of a commitment and going to sleep this early doesn’t seem like an option

@hering_david I could see both sides here tbh. Everybody has their own preferences and that's great, but if somebody told me that their *favorite* book is Lolita, that is in fact a red flag! That said, just having it on their bookshelf doesn't signify much, imo.

'Dining Room, Evening,' (1904) is classic Felix Vallotton where a sense of mystery surrounds the painting. Vallotton arrived at his arrangements by looking to the furniture that filled his atelier; the table cloth in this picture appears in many works from this period.

@poboxhwm @tonytost Oh my god Ronin is so good. I have a Boogie Nights problem where I’ve watched the first 45 minutes at least 5 times over the years and keep getting interrupted. Never finished!

@thenunwithtwo @tonytost Hard agree. For a while I would catch it at almost any point on HBO and gleefully watch it through the end. This and Boogie Nights, and Ronin, of course

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (1997). An all-time bros-being-bros masterpiece that's neck-and-neck with UNFORGIVEN as my favorite picture of the 1990s. Pretty much every single story turn -- and there are dozens -- makes me do a fist pump. Perfect movie, no notes.
