“Intense, heartbreaking, fascinating and beautiful, it is impossible not to get pulled inside this story. And feel it. And live it. And never forget it. Infinite and unforgettable, it all comes down to this: pure ruthlessness. And pure genius.” ... oh if you say so, Carla.

@andersons_davis There will one day. You may have to be patient, alas. But I can't in all decency leave Erlan and Lilla hanging. Thanks for your interest!

I’m still not sure what I make of allegorical stories, even though “The Rat” is the second one that has occurred to me this year. It seems a bitter coincidence, in the light of its meaning and plot, that “The Rat” was scheduled for publication the day after probably the most articulate truth-teller of his generation has been assassinated. Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk. I can’t think of any other man so young who was so intelligent in his reasoning and recall, so articulate in his speaking, nor so courageous in the face of all the smears and often deranged opposition that came against him. You cannot hide your character when you expose yourself to public scrutiny for as long as he did. He was what he seemed to be - a decent family man; an advocate for common sense, free speech, and creative values over lies, delusion and destruction; and often a bold truth-teller on a mission to wake up the world in the face of naked evil. His assassination while he was in the very act of the free exchange of ideas as an alternative to the mad descent into violence is bitterly ironic and dark beyond belief. That’s why I dedicate this short story to him. There is no need to search very far for the allegorical meaning in this story. Today, Charlie is the mouse. The question is: who are you? I hope you take the time to read it. …‘It is not your kingdom,’ hisses the mouse in defiance. ‘And even though you strike me down, others will come in my place.’… seenandunseen.com/rat-new-short-…

It’s time to end this ridiculous notion that cows are bad for the planet. It’s the exact opposite.

Here's what I thought of it: 'Templar Traitor is Donald at the height of his powers. Richly atmospheric, filled with sweeping vistas, blood-pumping action and romance. I couldn't put it down. The highest praise I can give is this: I wish I'd written it myself!'

It's finally publication day for Templar Traitor, my novel about an Englishman who fought for Genghis Khan! angusdonaldbooks.com/mongol/templar…

We love murder! That’s if the sales figures for The Thursday Murder Club do not lie. As Netflix release the movie version of Richard Osman’s bestselling phenomenon this week, check out my article exploring our changing attitudes to the literature of murder in the modern age. Cosy crime, or psycho-thriller? Or something far more profound? @seenunseenmag seenandunseen.com/murder-we-wrot…

Nice to see ⚡️A Sacred Storm ⚡️ given a boost by @AspectsHistory this month - probably the most purely epic of The Wanderer Chronicles series. Socks you in the emotional guts, heart, head, and all the other bits, too. (And definitely has the best baddie I've written thus far.) Check it out if you haven't already, and what I have to say about it. 👇👇👇 aspectsofhistory.com/author_intervi…

This was a fun interview with two excellent historical fiction authors who I occasionally drink beer and chat with, but this time we recorded it. So if you want to know more about Harald Hardrada and his time in the Roman empire, give it a watch. :)

If you're interested in this history, the Bernicia Chronicles will be right up your street. Covering the major events of the reigns of the Northumbrian Kings of the mid seventh century.
North Ages@NorthAges

Aug 5: Feast of Oswald (†642), king of the Northumbrians. Enthroned after a childhood spent in exile in Dál Riata. Slew British king Catguollaun in battle at Denisesburn (possibly Rowley Burn, Northumberland). Slain himself by Penda, pagan king of the Mercians. 📸Mike Quinn
