Kollek walked out the front door, drawing FBI attention, while Sinatra exited the back with approximately 1 million dollars in a paper bag. He met the captain at the ship and handed over the money to ensure the ship could sail. This was a clandestine operation and it took courage on Dad's part. But supporting the newly forming State of Israel was a cause Sinatra supported throughout his life. Teddy and Frank maintained a connection, with Sinatra later visiting Israel for events like the 1964 dedication of the Frank Sinatra International Youth Center in Nazareth.

In March 1948, Frank Sinatra helped Teddy Kollek, a Haganah representative (and future Jerusalem mayor), smuggle an estimated $1 million in cash to a New York pier to pay for arms destined for the nascent State of Israel. Sinatra acted as a courier to bypass FBI surveillance, ensuring the money reached a ship captain for undercover operations.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. Kerkez and Frimpong were signed for their attacking output, not their defending. Yet in 80 combined games this season, they’ve managed just 4 assists between them — exactly where they were meant to excel🫢 We’ve gone from full-backs who delivered 15+ assists a season to almost nothing. Yet another example of last summer’s poor recruitment.
