@AntMan1098 @PaulHudrick The fan base is discounting the 3 seconds but the Sixers clearly aren’t This is the second trade they made (wizards last year) to maximize returns on seconds

@PaulHudrick That’s absurd lol. Jared McCain was a hit at 16 and we got the 22nd pick for him (albeit in a better draft but still)

Josh Harris said the ownership group, including Bob Myers, gave Daryl Morey the OK for the Jared McCain trade. Said the goal is maximizing the picks in return.

@CosmicWemby @eringrugan Buddy you can’t have all guards and have a good team. Joel sucks at rebounding and defense now. McCain would be the fifth player to end games and he sucks at both of those things. So if you want an AVERAGE rebounding team trading McCain was the best use of resources

@eringrugan You're worried about your 22nd pick when you traded away your 16th pick who was a lock for Rookie of the year and showed alot of upside and you traded him away to OKC with no return.....💀!

Myers on trading Jared McCain: "I'm not gonna disparage Daryl [Morey]. That was a few months ago. Right now, we have the 22nd pick, our job is to get that right. We have 3 second-round picks from it. We should be graded on the ultimate result of transactions like that."

@CosmicWemby @eringrugan Meyers didn't trade him. Why do you want him to be worried about something that happened already and he can't control?

Just had a chance to catch up on the full Josh Harris/Bob Myers presser Pretty discouraging opening presser in my opinion. Largely filled with corporate speak and empty fluff Going from Daryl Morey to Bob Myers isn’t an upgrade at the GM role and going to be fascinating to see they dynamics of how the full front office when a hire is made Seems pretty clear that the Sixers were undercutting Morey the second Myers was hired. Myers even having a voice in the Jared McCain trade is concerning from an organizational dynamic Going to be an interesting next few weeks for the Sixers

@Viktomize @TheHerd @colincowherd They didn’t improve the bench BECAUSE Joel didn’t prove himself in the season to be able to build around. Last year when they thought they had mvp Joel they were ramping up the full roster. Joel’s decline changed all that

@TheHerd @colincowherd Morey got fired for building an awful roster. Sixers were the worst team in the playoffs from 5-10 on the roster. Even with a healthy Joel this team wasn’t going to win. Morey deserved to be fired.

"The only thing worse than not having a star is having one on a huge contract that's not available consistently. That got Daryl Morey fired." @colincowherd argues hitching his wagon to Joel Embiid ultimately cost Morey his job with the 76ers

@PhillyPMC Morey absolutely did not deserve to be fired! If Morey had a superstar’s who was actually reliable he would be in ECF right now. That was his only sin: Trusting an MVP that wasn’t possible to build around

I have a feeling Morey won’t go quietly into the night, and there will be a deluge of leaks that paint the Sixers ownership in a negative light (rightfully so). That’s not to absolve Morey — he deserved to be fired — but to recognize Harris and Blitzer are still the main issue.
Fullcourtpass@Fullcourtpass

The 76ers ownership “very much approved” of trading Jared McCain to the Thunder and it is NOT what got Daryl Morey fired, per @JakeLFischer (marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-n…)

@TrillBroDude Yes, let’s fire the guy that can obviously find the talent instead of working to adapt his player management Now we will get a normal guy who can’t do the hard part at all My life’s mission is to point out Trills poor critical thinking skills every time I can

Extremely good bit that all these former sixers we lost for very little or nothing at all keep going off in the playoffs the week that Daryl Morey was fired

Giving some more thought to Daryl Morey's tenure in Philadelphia and overall legacy: Think he is a brilliant human being who sometimes undervalues the human side of roster building. He was ahead of his time and the NBA has caught up to him to an extent Morey's prioritization of stars is understandable, but overlooking role players is where he ultimately paid the price Think he is a good dude who did what he thought was best and operated under the circumstances he was dealt. Wish him well and think this had to happen for all parties

@therealallpro @soshtry @Sean_Barnard1 I think Morey did good and would’ve kept him on but the sweep exposed a lot of Morey weaknesses and the McCain trade didn’t help even though he may be proven right later.

The Sixers situation got weird when Bob Myers came along. These two guys were rivals during some tense Warriors/Rockets series in the 2010s and then they were both working for the Sixers just like that. And Morey was essentially answering to Myers. Hard to imagine Morey liked that. As for Myers, I get a lot of people think he’s super overrated (there’s a decent argument to make) but he’s well-respected around the league for a reason. The Sixers need a complete culture shift, and Myers will find the guy/help make that happen.
Sam Oshtry@soshtry

18 months ago I talked about Bob Myers finding his way to the Sixers (Gotta say I don’t think he ends up in the full time role anymore with his position running all of Josh Harris’ teams but he was never staying in TV)

@Sean_Barnard1 The fan base is about to quickly remember what it is like before Morey. Instead of being deplete assets he actually left us with a surplus. I can’t remember the last time that happened with a GM.

It is a results based world we live in Expectations were high when Daryl Morey was hired and the Sixers have not reached these goals. I largely agree with the process and not the execution of most of his decisions Sixers had to do something and this felt the obvious answer

I think the McCain issue is so much bigger than Nurse. McCain shot 39 percent on 2s as a Sixer. He was moving so slow. He was bad in the G-League. The year before, McCain was doing great under Nurse. IMO, the mistake was not being patient + waiting out McCain's injury recovery.

The Sixers' only wings for half the season were Kelly Oubre and Justin Edwards. The Sixers' only centers for half the season were Andre Drummond and Adem Bona. The Sixers' power forwards for most of the season were a couple of two-way guys. x.com/SamQuinnCBS/st…
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

This surprises me. I felt coaching was a bigger issue for Philly than roster construction. OKC unlocking McCain immediately upon acquiring him is a pretty negative reflection on how Nurse was using him, and historically speaking, GMs fare better when they pick their coach.

@HoopsReference I love love love McCain! But two things: 1. He hasn’t developed on ball YET like I’ve hoped 2. The Sixers roster construction didn’t allow for his skill set to be used. Joel falling off defensively changed everything

@Sean_Barnard1 I think the case is 1. The defense is weak with Joel and McCain wouldn’t help that 2. They already have two young guards they are building around. Joel’s fall off defensively is literally everything. If we have peak Joel everything is different

@SpikeEskin Morey has us sitting on SURPLUS draft capital. Do ppl forget what the last couple regimes left us? If Joel was MVP Joel this all looks different. The Truth is most ppl wanted us to Go all in on Joel. He hedge his bet a bit.

There is a fair argument for moving on from Morey based on results. But firing him as a punishment vs. firing him because you have someone you believe will be better are two different things. It is worth noting that firing Morey does not rid you of the Embiid or PG contracts.

@PJTuckermuse_ @Sean_Barnard1 I think the reason why they have no bench is because the FO didn’t believe in the Core. I think the evidence is building that a bench matters more than it used to but I still wouldn’t risk assets for a failed core

@therealallpro @Sean_Barnard1 To be fair in game 3 we were down by like 6-10 points at 3QT and our bench hadn't gotten a singular point whereas the Knicks had 20+ Do we make the Finals with a good bench? - probably not but it's still unacceptable for our team to only have 1-2 bench players who are playable

@Sean_Barnard1 I think I would be more in this camp if we lost in say 6 games in ECF because role players can help with a game maybe two but getting swept by huge margins tell me we weren’t even close.

@therealallpro Definitely a fair overall look but I do still really think depth matters. I feel Maxey needing to play 47 mins in a game and leading the league in postseason minutes is pretty correlated to him running out of gas. Sixers bench was so much worse than every other remaining team
