@NetsDaily Most importantly Prokhorov would not settle for the level of mediocrity that Tsai has allowed on his watch. Actually very few owners would keep employing Marks under these circumstances.

He got Barclays Center built at a cost of $1B. Before he arrived, it was barely hanging on. Got HSS Training Center built at a cost of $50M. Paid out $215M to renovate Coliseum for G League franchise, etc. Spent hundreds of millions on luxury taxes. All building blocks.

@NetsDaily Forgot to mention the former Nets owner, the Russian he was the worst took the money and disappeared

@NetsDaily He is the worst owner in my lifetime outside of Ratner. At least we knew Ratner was eventually going to sell. Wonder how much worse it is going to get with his net worth cut in half now.

There's no argument that this is not a disappointing offseason. You can be happy about: MBJ, Randle trade, Sharpe/Minott resign, but this was underwhelming. Outside of MBJ/Egor there are no keepers (and they still have lots to prove). Lot of stopgaps and bad young guys.
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

The Nets held off on this signing to see if they could spend $14 million in cap space first. By officially signing Moe Wagner, they’re down to $4.5 million in cap space and have the $9.4 million room mid-level exception as well. They can take both into the season.

@KeithSmithNBA What an underwhelming off season. We were told for the last 2 years that all of the flexibility would turn into something good. Instead we are still a bottom 3 team with only 2 solid young pieces.

The Brooklyn Nets have officially signed Moe Wagner. This signing will come out of cap space, and will bring the Nets down to roughly $4.5M remaining in cap space. Brooklyn also has the full $9.4M Room Exception available.

@JfromBk Not even for a second. Even Clara was holding out for something better and when we waived the white flag and completed this signing that was her last straw.

That’s it? Wasn’t it supposed to be a bigger move attached, which is why this signing took so long? Just like the Julius trade was supposed to be a bigger move, which is why that took so long? Anybody surprised?

@AdamOrecchio Sean Marks would have to he awake and willing to spend money for something to happen. Neither of those conditions appear to be true

@ReedWallach Sarcasm isnt my strong suit, i guess. Our 1st round pick from last year showing signs that one day he could possibly be the second worst guy on the team if he tries hard, is not really a compliment.

@TheRealJGeller Even if Saraf showed flashes of being a capable 11th man, you could find that for far cheaper and less of a commitment than a first round contract which is why the pick is so bad when you add it to all the other picks they made. Also, he’s really bad.

@ReedWallach Agreed. Saraf shows flashes of being a capable 11th man, but Powell has clearly regressed and doesn't look like an NBA player at this point. Wolf and Egor look good though.

@ScoopB Scoop, rate Sean Marks off season assuming he follows his regular pattern and is mostly done except some small housekeeping moves? This is not the off season nets fans were sold for the last 3 years.

Hypothetically if Nets: 1. Signed Duren to Kessler deal (4-130) 2. Traded 2-3 picks and MPJ for Murphy 3. Resigned Sharpe, Ziare, Minott Roster: PG: Brown/Traore/Saraf SG: Demin/Mann/Powell SF: Murphy/Minott PF: Randle/Wolf/Jefferson C: Duren/Sharpe I'd be pretty amped

The Nets future hinges on the Nets drafted players becoming top level players, waiting for a star to become available for trade and hope to snag a star in 2028 free agency. That’s the reason why they don’t want to commit to any player past 2 years on their contracts. That’s plan. A lot of what if’s.. Hope it works out.

ICYMI: Marks' moves have yet to appreciably move the #Nets' needle forward. He does, however, have the cap space & Draft capital to not fall so much further behind all the improving competitors in the East. To quote Judge Smails: We're waiting! Link: open.substack.com/pub/stevelicht…

@SteveLichtenst1 Great piece. Barely any beat writers hold Marks accountable f9r off seasons like these. I hope I am wrong, but based on his history Marks is done at this point and will make some minor moves the rest of the way. If every move is about "Flexibility" it is hard to build a winner.

@dbearak Thats what makes this trade even more perplexing. PG still has 2 whole years left at 53 million. That contract is soo bad it was worth it for Philly to send out 1 first just to dump it and Boston just took it on.

@Pass1st11 @BKNBUZZ @BobSacamano_5 That's my problem with fans and writers never holding Marks accountable. He can claim flexibility until infinity and no one questions when that will turn into actual moves. Been the same script for a while now.

@BKNBUZZ @BobSacamano_5 You can walk and chew gun at the same time. This will be back to back offseaons with cap and trade flexibility and yet there are no veterans on this team with any future here. Kicking the can every offseason isnt a strategy. We have no infrastructure

@RaymondSultan There were ways to tank and have talent. Look what the jazz did with Lauri and JJJ and Keyonte. Look what the wizards did. Look what the sixers did the year before with Macey. That’s a bad excuse

@JfromBk I don't understand this at all. If he is soo good, why did he play 6 minutes a game in the playoffs? We are paying him almost as much money as Shamet and Alvarado combined who were key bench pieces for a championship team.

Jaylen Brown is a fantastic player but he’s 30 years old and any team who acquires him will essentially be committing 5-years, $325M to him post-extension. How many teams would be willing to sign him outright for that number? Very few. Now, how many teams would be willing to trade significant assets AND pay Brown that number. That’s the issue Boston is running into.
NBACentral@TheDunkCentral

Jaylen Brown’s trade value appears to be lower than Boston expected, per @sam_amick “Barring a drastic and unforeseen change in the market, the Boston Celtics will have to significantly lower their asking price if they plan on trading him anytime soon.” (Via nytimes.com/athletic/live-…)

Nets better actually have plans for their cap space whether that is with Kessler/Duren/a star/ or at bare minimum salaries for really solid picks, otherwise this is just a massive dud of back to back offseasons
