Sometimes (often times) we don’t realize that our parents were young too. Back in 2018, my parents visited me in Toronto. Dad put out that he is Toronto on his engineering WhatsApp group. In next 24hrs, his batchmate in North America arranged a get together in Scarborough- it was in the house of his batchmate from Sri Lanka. Apparently there was an international student program in IIT back in the day and his batch had folks from SL. His friend came to Canada as a refugee during the 80s crisis. When we went there a week later, I expected a typical party of 60yrs+ old. What I witnessed was something else. Folks from Kentucky, Tennessee, Quebec, they all came for the get together. What followed had my jaws hit the floor. They had a jam session and they began singing some classic songs - Beatles, ABBA, and Eagles. Guitar, flute, and drum!!! And surprisingly my Dad remembered the lyrics to the t. My Dad is a very serious person. I never saw him listen to music, it was all grind. To see him sing - Living next door to Alice, Hotel California, Rasputin as if he practiced them everyday was a shocker! He basically went from this cool dude with long hair to a serious grinder and stayed there for 4 decades! Maybe life happened. Maybe the kids happened. But boy, that evening I saw a different side of him!
