Today we celebrate a lion for justice, my little brother in the movement, Rev. Charles E. Williams II. From the days he stood beside me as a young firebrand committed to change to now leading the Michigan chapter of the National Action Network and pastoring the historic King Solomon Baptist Church, Charles has grown into one of our movement’s strongest voices within NAN and a necessary voice across the broader fight for civil rights. On his birthday, we give thanks for his faith, courage, and unrelenting commitment to justice, equality, and service to the people. May God continue to bless him, his beautiful family, and his ministry. Happy birthday Rev. Williams. Keep shining, keep marching, keep fighting.

To all the imbeciles cheering on RFK Jr. scrapping the Hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns, the vaccine is considered one of the safest vaccines ever developed, with over 40 years of global use and billions of doses administered. Since newborns began getting the Hepatitis B vaccine in 1991, we’ve seen a 99% reduction in pediatric infections Hepatitis B can pass from mother to baby during delivery, even if the mother didn’t know she was infected. If a newborn gets Hep B, they have a 90% chance of developing chronic lifelong infection. Adults only have about a 5% chance. So babies are far more vulnerable, and the consequences are much more severe. You are all literally making kids sick.

As a liver doctor who has treated patients with hepatitis B for decades, this change to the vaccine schedule is a mistake. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. The birth dose is a recommendation, NOT a mandate. Before the birth dose was recommended, 20,000 newborns a year were infected with hepatitis B. Now, it’s fewer than 20. Ending the recommendation for newborns makes it more likely the number of cases will begin to increase again. This makes America sicker. Acting CDC Director O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead retain the current, evidence-based approach.

Since newborns began getting the Hepatitis B vaccine in 1991, we’ve seen a 99% reduction in pediatric infections.  Now, RFK Jr. and his conspiracy theorists want to take away all that progress.  Here in Massachusetts, I won’t let that happen.

The vaccine advisory board just APPROVED moving the hep b vaccine to 2 months or later unless parents choose otherwise for low risk babies 🙌 This was the only vaccine given AT BIRTH.

On Thursday, August 28, the 62nd anniversary of the March on Washington, we moved the fight for justice to Wall Street. Thousands from across the country marched with us to send a clear message to those in power: you can raise prices, bankroll politicians, and roll back DEI, but you cannot silence the people. Brandon Wolf of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Rev. Charles Williams, NAN Michigan State President, reminded us that power belongs to We the People, and we will not stop organizing, marching, and demanding equity in the boardroom, the classroom, and the ballot box. This was not just a march; it was a call to action. We will keep building power until justice is reality for all. 🔗NationalActionNetwork.net #MarchOnWallStreet #EconomicJustice #DEIMatters #PeopleOverProfit #EquityNow
