If any consolation, they treat Hindi as equals with chennai outsiders from other cities in Tamil Nadu and trying to charge the same amount - after 6 months, you get the grasp through some positive experience and do the course correction. It is a problem only for white collar Hindi speakers. My barbers, restaurant waiters, gig workers are all Hindi or non Tamil

@krithikasivasw Chennai auto drivers don't force people to speak, but silently quote 3 times the fare for Hindi speakers. So also every street vendor. Quote higher rent for Hindis etc.

Never seen a Chennaivaasi beat up a non Tamil for not speaking Tamil. Never seen auto drivers here force people to speak only in Tamil, unlike Kannada speaking auto drivers in Bengaluru. The Hindi speaking population in north madras has blended into the city so well over the decades, and tamils continue to enjoy their unique identity having healthy interactions with Marwadis and Gujaratis there.

@ArunKrishnan_ Let me answer this as a “North” Indian who has been much longer in south and who can read and write both Tamil and Kannada. Chennai is hostile to non natives. Bangalore , Hyderabad are not. I have multiple friends from Karnataka with whom I have had enriching cultural exchange

அன்பில் மகேஷ் Bishop Heber College-ல் படித்ததை ஏன் affidavit-ல் குறிப்பிடவில்லை? MCA 2001-ல் முடித்தவர். 2025-ல் Honorary Doctorate வாங்கியிருக்கிறார். அது எந்த கல்லூரி வழங்கியது என்பதையும் குறிப்பிடவில்லை. இதுக்கு கேசுக்கு போட்ட என்னென்ன charges வரும்? Ps: காசு கொடுத்தால் Honorary Doctorate கொடுக்க பல கல்லூரிகள் இருக்கின்றன.

The idea is good, but the execution is totally flawed. This 30K doesn't make a difference. The proper approach would be to provide tax incentives if the goal is to encourage families to have more than two children.
