Our family has appealed to all party office holders, senior leadership, MNAs, MPAs, and Senators to come to Adiala Jail this Tuesday to build pressure on the government to: 1. Allow immediate access for Imran Khan’s lawyers and family. 2. Transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for proper medical examination and treatment, in the presence of specialists, his personal doctor, and family. 3. Ensure Chief Justice Dogar takes up the bail applications of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi so they can be released from this illegal imprisonment without delay. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are being held in solitary confinement, one of the harshest forms of treatment in violation of Pakistani law and international human rights standards.

My father, Senator Ejaz Chaudhary is in illegal incarceration for last 3 years. Since last few weeks various indicators of his health and overall energy levels indicated that something was amiss. After great difficulty we were able to get his blood work and check up done. It was diagnosed that his Kidney function has been severely affected and he now has Chronic Kidney Disease at Stage 3. He, along with his companions is languishing in Jail with their appeals and petitions for suspensions not getting fixed before LHC. When they do get fixed, cause list is cancelled or prosecution doesn’t show up, etc. Our constitution ensures dignity of life. Are we not Pakistanis? @PTIofficial

Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law. The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment. Retaining the GSP+ status requires the implementation of a number of international human rights treaties, including the ICCPR and CAT Pakistani human rights NGO and activists routinely highlight how Pakistan’s conduct is in violation of these treaty obligations, and as a result, runs contrary to its GSP+ commitments. The objective is to urge the Govt to course correct and for U.N. bodies + the EU to raise these concerns in their communications with the Govt. It does not mean asking for the GSP+ status to be revoked Similarly, human rights defenders, victims, and families of victims of human rights violations from around the world draw attention to their states’ conduct in statements at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. Doing so is not “anti-state” behaviour but a core oversight function of the Council, which Pakistan too has repeatedly supported in its official statements and pledges PTI has in the past taken problematic positions that go against the interests of the people of Pakistan, but in his oral statement during the HRC General Debate and his speech during the side event on Pakistan, Kasim Khan did not ask for Pakistan’s GSP+ status to be suspended or revoked as is being alleged by some. On the contrary, Zulfi Bokhari in the side event argued against revocation or suspension as doing so would hurt ordinary Pakistanis We should be cautious in how we frame our critique of Kasim Khan and the PTI on this particular issue. I have questions about what PTI seeks to achieve from such advocacy and whether it helps their case. However, in my view, a general condemnation of raising human rights concerns internationally at forums meant specifically for this purpose (like the Human Rights Council) and even a reference to Pakistan’s non-compliance with GSP+ commitments risks making legitimate human rights advocacy treasonous. We see a reflection of this in the Information Minister’s post as well I wrote this in 2020 when PTI was in Govt and Imran Khan was the Prime Minister. I highlighted how his Govt was violating Pakistan’s human rights treaty obligations and how doing so could potentially put Pakistan’s GSP+ status at risk.
