@DanSchneierNFL @McMerkelJones If Reese is there at 5 I think you have to trade back to a team who wants him. Really do not want the Giants to take him. How is he fitting into the D line?

@McMerkelJones 1⃣If Reese is on the board at 5, he's my pick unless Styles is also there. I go back and forth with them and lean Styles.

10 thoughts on the Giants Draft with 12 hours to go (long thread): 1⃣If Reese is on the board at 5, he's my pick unless Styles is also there. I go back and forth with them and lean Styles. 2⃣If they miss on Styles or Reese at 5, trade back should be priority. A case can be made it's the best option regardless. 3⃣If they want WR, I'd much rather trade back once or twice and draft KC Concepcion. He has as much upside as anyone at WR. Go watch him vs. ND 4⃣If they don't take Styles, Reese or trade 5, I lean Downs despite feeling confident he'll be on the board at 10. I want one of those three OSU defenders. 5⃣If they don't draft Styles, the good news is this LB class is loaded and there will be no shortage of BPA matches need fit values at 37: Rodriguez & Allen are my top two targets after Styles, in that order. I don't really understand why Rodriguez isn't viewed as a top 20-25 player in this class. 6⃣If they don't get Styles, Reese, Downs or trade 5, I prefer OL with a lean to Maiuga. I think he helps them win the most now at RG but I also like his upside (age based, tape based, projection wise at guard) 7⃣I still love Vega Ioane as a prospect, but can't deny that Chase Bisontis was a fun watch. I think both are the two clear best bets to translate in pass protection, but Bisontis is the better move in space. However, with the success stories of both Barton and Zabel drafted in Rd 1 in consecutive drafts, the Giants can't bank on Bisontis falling to 37 (and/or any pick they acquire via trading 5). That's why I'm still open to Vega at 10 should they keep the pick. Teams are getting smarter about the true positional value of offensive guard and interior line play on BOTH sides of the ball. If they miss on both, Rutledge and Dunker would be two players I'd be happy to draft at 37. 8⃣While it didn't work out that there's a Dex level DT to gamble on at 5 or 10 (the Bengals might've not traded it had there been), the Giants are set up in a really good position at 37 to draft a player like Miller .. possibly but unlikely McDonald or Hunter. However, there are sleeper DTs I like for them if they acquire another Day 2 pick much later and/or at 105. But overall, I wouldn't mind them double dipping at 37 and beyond -- especially if they trade back at 5 or 10 or 37. 9⃣It's the worst RB class I can remember depth wise, but I always believe some of the best values at any position are the RB position at the top of Day 3 of most classes. Some guys I wouldn't mind the Giants grabbing there: Emmett Johnson, Demond Claiborne, Eli Heidenreich 🔟If the right player falls, the Giants could be in position to draft a center at 105. Don't get tunnel vision with this (or any draft). It's not about going down a checklist and filling each need one by one. It's about finding the best players (and when they match need that's great!). JMS is a free agent after this season. Center is a sneaky place to upgrade both for 2026 but also possibly for this season. A case can be made Schlottman played as good as JMS last year.

@jimmy_tomredle I get going guard at 10 but I would almost rather double up on defense at 5 and 10 and sign Zietler or Van Roten back at guard. Gives us basically the same line as last year which was good and Dart can dance around sacks I’m not really worried about the o line.

The further free agency moves along, the more it feels Giants will run it back up front on the offensive line - the unit played well last year - with a focus shifting to the NFL Draft.

Everyone is always looking for real-time cap updates, but impossible to do until the contract structures are known. Here’s the best I can do for now: The NFLPA has the Giants with $20.8M before any of yesterday’s moves. We know Eluemunor’s 2026 cap hit is $6M so they’re at $14.8M without accounting for Likely or Edmunds. Assuming those contracts are structured like Eluemunor’s, the Giants are going to need to create some cap space real soon.

“Price simply got too high” You have a QB, WR, and Edge on rookie deals. Why are you afraid to spend?
Connor Hughes@Connor_J_Hughes

Among the players the #Giants are targeting: CB Jamel Dean, G Alijah Vera-Tucker, TE Isaiah Likely and, if the money is right, Tremaine Edmunds. They were very in on Kenneth Walker and Tyler Linderbaum, but the price simply got too high. That and more in this #NYG FA primer sny.tv/articles/giant…

Literally nobody knows what the Giants are doing this offseason and it’s glorious.
Jordan Schultz@Schultz_Report

Sources: The #Giants and RB Devin Singletary have agreed to a restructured contract to keep him in New York. ‘Motor’ has 1,144 total yards and 9 TDs with the Giants, and both sides wanted to keep the relationship going with new HC John Harbaugh.

They were ranked 31st. But they also dealt w/a lot of injuries. Had at least 9 different starting OL rotations last season. Tough waters for any coach to navigate through. Harbs clearly did his homework & saw something in Bloomgren. I'll wait to judge once the games are played.
dracy15@JohnDracy

@WBG84 Cleveland had one of the worst OLs last year. So many head scratching hires from Harbaugh on the offensive side

@WBG84 It’s cause Schoen never wants to spend money on big fish interior guys so they always go bargain hunting. Can’t do that this offseason.

@thomas_spallone I think we should expect at least a couple of upgrades on the starting unit. Very limited long-term foundational pieces on that part of the roster. It's a necessity to find solutions & not patch-up jobs. Cutting Runyan saves $9.2M w/a $2.5M dead cap. That's a real possibility.

@WBG84 That’s good to hear we need it lol. Do you think they have 3 new starters in the interior next year? You think a Runyan cut is possible think they save a lot of cap there? And do you have any possible guards to target in FA?

@thomas_spallone Bloomgren is a Bill Callahan disciple, who's long been regarded as one of footballs best OL coaches. Orcastrated some high-powered offenses at Stanford. His stint in CLE was nothing to write home about, but not a bad coach by means. With some retooling, the OL has real potential
