The American dream isn’t more money. It’s a Sunday like this: 1. Bible study and hot coffee 2. Family breakfast 3. Take your family to church 4. Family lunch together 5. Play in the yard all day 6. Grill out and eat on the patio 7. Walk to park 8. Bedtime stories and prayer 9. Hang out with wife and plan week And, not stressing about money once. That’s wealth.

As a follow up to my last post. There are attributes of preachers often highlighted. One I don't see much about is that they are not to be "brawlers" (1 Timothy 3:3). Not a brawler means peaceful, reluctant to fight. Wuest defines it as "The word describes a person who does not go about with a chip on his shoulder". Sadly, some Christians and preachers take "contend for the faith" as if it stands in isolation and even then just become contentious. If you must contend, if there is a fight with another saint, then it is something we approach soberly and seriously, reluctantly. Yes, I know, Jesus flipped tables, but not all day every day. Some need to get in the fight, but others need to give more consideration to what it means to be peacemakers.

It was great to spend a few days with TJ and see him in action, serving in Virginia. It was a joy to preach here this week to teens and adults. I’m thankful for @KurtSkelly’s friendship to me and his investment in our adult children. God is doing great things at Faith!

Incredibly emotional watching this because I’m painfully aware that “the good old days” are right now. At 42 I have a perfectly imperfect life with a wonderful wife and two great kids. I don’t long for my younger years. I want to freeze time right now.

@NathanPCook Twitter has a character limit. It’s why I was clear to specify the word “physical” that the Billy Graham rule keeps one from. It should not be the only safeguard or guiding principle to a life or marriage, but it is an honorable one to consider.

@thompsrus Many people have affairs of the mind via social media, etc… The principle above still stands, but just a little reminder it is seldom as simple as a physical interaction.

The Billy Graham Rule is undefeated. No matter how much you trust yourself or how unnecessary or archaic you think guidelines like this are, this truth remains: I have never known someone who had a physical affair with a person they were never alone with.
