Today I learned that Gibraltar now has an open beneficial ownership register (for a £2.50 fee). I expect there are people who set up Gibraltar companies years ago who aren't aware their ownership is now public... could be interesting...

@DanNeidle @OpenOwnership It's a nightmare trying to figure out how to show the *many* variants of access regime worldwide on a map so this is a bit of reduction. Long story short, 'pure' public (if the UK is the benchmark) - very few.

The pretty map here from @OpenOwnership looks at first sight like loads of places have beneficial ownership registers. But most of those registers are only available to law enforcement. openownership.org/en/map/

Question: how many countries in the world, other than the UK, have a publicly accessible register of beneficial ownership of companies? Not "will have a register soon". Or "has a register, but you have to jump through hoops to search it". An actual live register?
