@samsoniuk Maybe I don’t know the retro scene as good as I should… but to my knowledge a lot more retro machines run the 680x0 series processors over the 486 … (Segas, Amigas, Ataris, old Macs etc …)

If there is a state with greater scenic beauty than Oregon, I haven’t seen it. Mountains, high desert, Pacific, Hood, Columbia, Portland — it’s just spectacular. I don’t want to spoil anything for residents, but it’s a truly underrated state. I’m lucky to have married into it.

1. Americans shouldn’t root for the US to lose. It’s like rooting for your plane to crash. 2. People shouldn’t celebrate returning to worse than the status quo like it’s an accomplishment. It’s like losing steak for a shit sandwich. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

@sfchronicle Seems unnecessary and a classic private equity move to strip the personality and soul of a business, let alone one that rooted itself in SF.

As a Hungarian friend just put it to me, voting for Péter Magyar is now not just about getting rid of Orban, but about humiliating Vance.

I feel sick to my stomach waiting around today to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom that our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's really an indictment not just of the electorate but of our whole system of government. We're ruled by a mad king.

My dad laughed when I began collecting vinyl records 20 years ago. He didn’t understand why I wanted an inferior, expensive, dated media format—one he was glad to have ditched. Now I’m that way seeing kids using old iPods. Makes no sense. They’re worse than phones in every way.

I'm writing a Dave's Garage episode on why new computers are slower than old ones (spoiler alert: it's the software). After enjoying my obligatory photo of counting 6502 cycles like it was the olden days, let me know what you think is the biggest factor in why current code is so much slower than old code. Here are my basic premises so far: - We lost the hardware constraints that kept us honest - No enforced CPU/RAM budgets, no daily benchmarks - Abstractions without accounting for their costs - Incentives shifted towards feature release speed - Lowered perf standards, where "it works" is enough - Dependency explosions in code - AI is also a multiplier of mediocrity What am I missing?
