up until ummm 2023? 2024? i was really obsessed with sounding as pretty and as elegant as possible like all the cool fanfic people and it got to the point where i was so fucking bored with myself and what i was doing so i read Other Things and the falseness washed itself out

btw i say having fun with writing is the key to high word counts but the other part is to read other things than fanfic. i got really tired emulating the flowery fanfic style and stuck to something that felt more true to myself and the high word counts followed

last night i was late to my reading & rushing to get to my bus stop when i passed by a group of 60-70 yos in & outside this small gallery, & they all seemed very happy, & i wanted to be them. later i learned it was the opening night for a fish-themed group exhibition

I haven’t submitted to all of these but can confirm that they are filled with wonderful editors who are so encouraging and receptive and nice and that working with them will inspire you to write more
