FIRST LOOK: The Brink of War is an upcoming political thriller about President Reagan's efforts to negotiate nuclear disarmament with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. The “So?” is very fair! I guess to me it’s a discussion about labels. I see people say things like Interstellar is a more artistic film than 2001, or that Nolan is as artistic or moreso than Kubrick. And I disagree with that.
That doesn’t mean Nolan isn’t great at what he does. He makes films that sweep people up, in a way few other filmmakers do. I just…feel like he gets credit for literary depth that he doesn’t really earn. He has moments but most of his films aren’t concerned with the literary.
