@Doc_Courtney @benjbrewster well, obesity is associated with all sorts of adverse outcomes just as, say elevated cholesterol. To say it's not a medical need is disingenuous.

@benjbrewster I’m not morally opposed to any medication. In fact, my father and former husband both died of conditions related to obesity. I’m talking about the widespread use by people who don’t have a medical need.

The widespread use of semaglutide for weight loss in individuals without diabetes concerns me as an epidemiologist. I worry that 20 years from now we’re going to be using it as a case study for teaching.

Every undergraduate should have to take courses in welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or automotive mechanics so that he’ll have a trade to fall back on if he’s unable to get a job with his degree.

Why are the tiny chickpeas so vastly superior to the normal-size ones?

@tyberinger I'm so sorry. But I'm so happy that we have treatments which can make this very manageable and not affect eyesight. Hoping it all goes smoothly for you.

@usa1817 I've worn glasses since age 6. The struggle is indeed real. Sadly, you can't squint through a pinhole in a piece of paper or do weird eye exercises to change the shape of your eyeball :(

Once met a person who thought he could "train" his eyes to no longer be near-sighted. It was sad, infuriating, silly and frustrating all at once. He spent a lot of time squinting.
