The illusion of time is crazy, a second ago we were kids, a minute ago we couldn’t wait to graduate, get a job & become adults. Now we are here looking forward to the next this or next that. In another few minutes we will be hitting 60s asking where time’s gone.

@justdo01 @Folyjay Mention that you are black and worried that some chronic medical contains affect blacks earlier than 40 as established by recent multimodal UK studies. You would love to be evaluated earlier. Add family risks (if you have any family members with chronic conditions)

@tiemedoks @Folyjay The problem is they don’t do this unless you’re 40 or above. What might one tell them as a form of persuasion if you’ve got an idea

If you are an African man living in the UK aged 35 and above you should contact your GP to arrange a well man appointment. A word they say is enough….

@tiemedoks Why about people who are not yet 35. In their 30s already though?

@tiemedoks Ohhhh yes, at least I now know what I am dealing with. People walk and think they are very healthy like I thought, but without these examinations, one will never know.

@Okizle @iamSwaga22 @onyebebe One other interesting thing is the fact that the data from ONS was not disaggregated. It will be interesting to see what the exact value (healthy life expectancy) will be for blacks. One could bet it’ll be well lower than national average

Agreed This is a worthy talking point particularly when you consider the racial inequality that is associated with the incidence of long term conditions. NHS in all its glory still has that as a potential short coming. It's something I will be happy to be a part of if we want to lead on something like that

@Okizle @iamSwaga22 @onyebebe We definitely need to lend our voice, we are equally under-represented at the policy making decision levels. Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN) is doing an incredible job on this. They hosted a black health inequality summit in London few weeks ago where I gave a talk.

@tiemedoks @iamSwaga22 @onyebebe The decision to do that can then be practice dependent. Well Man check is commissioned via ICBs and as you know some of the components hit QoF points. In the absence of specific risk factor, people under 40 will not be invited routinely. It's the system unfortunately

@LAPO_Baby General health check, to identify any potential health problems. Like MOT but for men. It’s a preventive health strategy

@Vickokingz A comprehensive health check for men to identify any potential health problems. Something like an MOT but for men

@SonofBayo @Akujesu Infant the socioeconomic factor is a significant predictor for earlier onset of chronic medical conditions. It’s a multi factorial and multimodal problem. Food is definitely one of the areas adults should start paying attention to

@akinsanyajoe @iamSwaga22 @onyebebe Totally agree with you but I just wonder what GPs do. Does this 40 benchmark occurs across board or will perhaps 1/20 gps consider the request on consideration terms?

@tiemedoks @iamSwaga22 @onyebebe NHS guidelines still puts the benchmark at 40 so most GPs and local council will be reluctant to grant your request if the threshold isn’t met given an already overstretched system.
