Interesting first week. The Glyndebourne Festival receives no public funding. Today's Arts Council cut is to the grant for our tour and education work. We will consider the implications very carefully. Meanwhile, my heart goes out to those facing far more challenging news.

Boris Johnson is, by some distance, the worst thing ever to happen to British politics. A serial liar, a proven cheat, an enemy of common decency. If he has finally buckled under the weight of his own depravity, none of his supporters should be allowed to forget their complicity.

Following the very sad news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, as a mark of respect we will not be going ahead with Prom 71 on Friday 9 September, or the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 10 September.
