@RachelReevesMP How about giving them free bus travel to school? Next year I'm having to pay hundreds of pounds a term for my child. Of course, if I was on benefits I wouldn't have to pay. The party of working people? More like the welfare party!!

Good news for families - every child aged 5-15 in England will travel free on buses this summer, with unlimited journeys, no registration required, and no cost to families. Our economic plan is the right one. Tackling the cost of living and building a stronger Britain.

Anyone with any knowledge of English football history will know that it is ridiculous for Southampton’s chief executive, Phil Parsons, to claim that their expulsion from the Championship play-offs is a bigger punishment than the 30-point deduction imposed on Luton Town in 2008 which led to relegation and almost throttled the life out of the club. Absolutely no comparison and completely weakens Southampton’s attempted argument that being thrown out of the play-offs is “manifestly disproportionate to every previous sanction in the history of the English game”. There is some good stuff in Parsons’ statement: accepting culpability for Spygate, apologising to those clubs they spied on and apologising to their fans “whose extraordinary loyalty and support this season deserved better from the club”. Well said. But… the rules changed since Leeds United’s “similar offence” in 2019, there is no right to the £200m (it’s not a fine), and to play the whataboutery game and make the comparison with the Hatters is, fittingly, mad. Southampton’s reputation is certainly damaged but at least their very existence is not at risk. #SaintsFC #LTFC

I’ll always champion peaceful protest. But the Unite the Kingdom march organisers are peddling hatred and division. We’ve already blocked visas for far-right agitators who want to come here to spew their extremist views. They don't speak for the decent, fair, respectful Britain I know.

This man is a piece of work. Saheed Azeez was born in Nigeria about 35 years ago. He came to the UK and claimed asylum, claiming that because he was gay he was under threat in Nigeria. Once in the UK, he had relationships with three women, having 3 children. When asked about this he claimed to be bisexual, despite there being absolutely no evidence that he had been in a gay relationship with anyone in the UK. Not content with deceiving the immigration authorities, he then went on to deceive the British public. Azeez started a scam that involved getting private sellers of high value products (on eBay, WhatsApp) to send them, promising to pay on delivery. Instead Azeez intercepted the items and sold them in his brother’s electronics shop. Over 14 months, 272 people lost goods worth £220,000. When apprehended, Azeez tried to hide three stolen phones in his child’s school bag. Azeez pleaded guilty and in November 2023 was sentenced to 5 years and 2 months in prison. It is expected that he will be out on our streets again during 2026. Will he be deported? It is looking unlikely. Even if the government chooses to deport him, it is expected that because of his children in the UK and the “threat to him as a gay man” in Nigeria the ECHR would step in and prevent it. So we are probably stuck with him and his cheating ways.

Our party has suffered a historic defeat. Many good Labour colleagues have lost their seats despite working hard for those they represented. We have lost good Labour administrations and lost the chance for more. What we are doing isn’t working, and it needs to change. This may be our last chance. The Labour Party must now live up to our name: we must be the party of working people. We’ve heard the same on the doorstep as we’ve seen in the polls - the cost of living is the top issue for voters of all parties. People have turned to populists and nationalists because we have not done enough to fix it. Living standards are barely higher than they were a decade and a half ago. People feel hopeless - that the cost of living crisis will never end, and now they see oil and gas companies use global instability to post record profits. Once again, ordinary people are paying the price for decisions they didn’t make. It’s no wonder that across the UK, working people feel the system is rigged against them. Things can be so much better than this. Countries including Spain and Canada have shown that economies can grow and people can thrive when governments stay true to labour and social democratic values and put people first. We need to learn from that. In London, we lost young people who fear they will never afford a home. In my patch and across the north, we lost working people whose wages are too low and costs too high. In Scotland and Wales, people do not currently see Labour as the answer.  We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism.  Decisions like cutting winter fuel allowance just weren’t what people expected from a Labour government. For too long, successive governments have allowed wealth and power to concentrate at the top without a plan to ensure the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. The result is an economy that does not work for the majority, with wealth concentrated in too few hands. This level of inequality, alongside squeezed living standards, is the outcome of a model built on deregulation, privatisation, and trickle-down economics. But we have the chance to fix this.  1/2

It really never ends… An Iraqi national, Yousif Al-Maliki, came to the UK on a small boat. He claimed to be fleeing persecution because he is bisexual. He was put up, at the taxpayer’s expense, in the Astor Hotel in South Kensington. And then in August 2025, he sneaked into a woman’s room at the hotel and raped her in the middle of the night. He has been found guilty by a jury, although his asylum appeal remains pending. It is likely that he will not be returned because he might be “in danger” if he is sent back. But what about the women in the UK? Don’t we have the right to not be subjected to dangerous men like this? (He was supposed to be sentenced on April 21 but there is absolutely nothing about his sentence anywhere. Did they lose him??)

@Keir_Starmer All you have to do is become the Labour party again rather than the welfare party. You've lost the vote of working people, the only people who would vote for you are those on benefits and even they turned to the Green promises this time. Slash welfare and reward work!!!

I see this every single day. Imagine this: a mother and two young children arrive here from Nigeria, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, or [insert any other country]. They can’t speak a lick of English and have no formal education. Many can’t read, write or use a computer…so have extremely limited job prospects. A month later, they report abuse to the police. Now legally, they can choose to live in any part of the country they wish. They are given priority housing which becomes theirs for life, with the rent entirely paid for by Universal Credit / Housing Benefit due to ‘low income.’ They’re entitled to all government benefits and look forward to getting their British citizenship in a few years. Meanwhile, British millennials and Zoomers - people born and raised here who grew up believing that hard work pays off are told owning a home is basically a fantasy. Many are stuck living with parents or think spending 70% of their salary on renting forever is normal. A state can’t survive with an unlimited duty of care to the world and none for its young active working population!
Talk@TalkTV

"I just don't see why we have a duty of care to other people from OTHER countries!" Nearly 1.5 million migrants received Universal Credit last year, according to figures. @JuliaHB1 | @GPascoeWatson
