Fernando Tatis Jr. has lost his lawsuit against Big League Advance. Tatis was paid $2 million as a minor leaguer in exchange for 10% of his future earnings. This was not a loan. If Tatis didn't make it to the big leagues, he didn't have to repay the $2 million. But Tatis did make it to the big leagues and later signed a 14-year, $340 million contract. That meant Tatis owed Big League Advance $34 million. Tatis had publicly praised Big League Advance, saying the $2 million allowed him to hire a personal trainer, upgrade his apartment, and eat better food. But after realizing he owed $34 million in exchange for $2 million, Tatis sued the company, alleging that they used predatory tactics to lure him into an investment deal that was really an illegal loan. The judge disagreed. The agreement was upheld this week and Tatis was even ordered to pay Big League Advance’s legal fees. This is a big deal because Big League Advance has signed deals with 700+ athletes, including Elly De La Cruz (MLB) and Nolan Smith (NFL), across MLB, NFL, and college sports (think: NIL). And now that the courts have ordered Fernando Tatis Jr. to follow through on the agreement, other potential legal challenges will likely go the same way.

The Giants are reportedly targeting UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky in the MLB Draft. Buster Posey met with him privately, and Brandon Crawford also spoke with Cholowsky, who grew up idolizing the Giants legend, per @BNightengale

Bob Nightengale on who the Giants are looking at in the first round of the MLB Draft, as well as his current grade for the team at this point of the season: “The Giants are making no secret that they have targeted UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky as their No. 1 choice in the July amateur draft. Buster Posey, Giants president of baseballl operations, not only met privately with Cholowsky, but the Giants also had former Giants shortstop great Brandon Crawford meet with Cholowsky. Cholowsky idolized Crawford growing up, and actually sought his advice before attending UCLA. The Giants have the No. 4 pick, and would have no qualms exceeding the slot value if Cholowsky’s signing bonus demands scare off the White Sox, Rays and Twins, who pick ahead of them.” Bob gives his current grade for the Giants (no surprise): “These days, despite a $200 million payroll littered with stars, they’ve been a dysfunctional disaster, en route to one of the worst seasons in franchise history. The Giants are 20-31 with a -57 run differential, which had happened only once in franchise history since 1902. And never in franchise history have they ever been more than four games under .500 at any juncture of a season and still reached the postseason. Their stars are underperforming, their young players are underachieving, and their offense has been a mess. They soon will be entertaining offers for veteran starter Robbie Ray, and perhaps homegrown star Logan Webb, too, with all of their high-prized stars available to anyone and everyone.” Giants grade: F

Mike Pompeo has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about. He should shut his stupid mouth and leave the real work to the professionals. He’s not read into anything that’s happening, so how would he know.
