@BeeblbroxZephod @Ellieinspace Butch is a pilot, and dragon is effectively a robo taxi. I think most people would argue that dragon is more technically impressive, but no pilot wants to be a passive passenger in their own vehicle. His assessment makes sense from his perspective.

@Ellieinspace Dragon is not as “Sleek as the other cars” That’s your dead giveaway that he can’t criticize dragon directly so he pretends to like it but clearly has something personal against it. He also compared starliner to a sports car in the same breath. Putting it nicely - he is a fraud.

@exn_hilio @JackTDecker @aleenaamiir Is music a replacement for good storytelling? Are costumes a replacement for good storytelling? I can think of terrible movies with fantastic musical scores and amazing costumes. Why are you picking on CGI?

@JackTDecker @aleenaamiir Also, CGI is used as a replacement for good storytelling. In the end the special effects are like lipstick on a pig.

@JackTDecker @aleenaamiir Don't conflate AI slop with CGI. All modern movies use CGI - including the ones that claim "no CGI". They're just gotten really good and you can't tell the difference. Modern CGI is a proper art form. Don't confuse it with procedurally generated AI crap.

@aleenaamiir One of the problems with AI slop and CGI in general is it creates stuff out of thin air thus we automatically know it isn't real and that destroys the suspension of disbelief.

@MrTeaThyme @lyberant @The8bitidiot @aruvinchan You talk about men fearing women. But it is this man's job to mentor and interact with women. Just as a fear of snakes makes you unqualified to be a snake tamer, a fear of women makes you unqualified to be an engineering team lead. Justification is irrelevant.

@timcortesi @lyberant @The8bitidiot @aruvinchan I addressed that exact scenario about 3 comments in. I wont respond to this seriously for one simple reason, you weren't willing to expend the energy to read more than one comment deep.

@MrTeaThyme @lyberant @The8bitidiot @aruvinchan If her team lead is incapable of determining the difference between what is and what is not appropriate in a professional setting, he shouldn't be in a leadership position. Poor judgement is not an excuse not to do your job (in this case -- reviewing her code)

Andy Weir just confirmed he’s already working on a new novel. "I’m working on my next book right now… It’s science fiction, of course, and a brand-new standalone story. It's not a sequel to anything". I wonder what kind of problem he’ll strand his next protagonist with.

@maj_kong @Jabberwocky415 @moultano They offer to refuel his ship and send him on his way. With no food (or very limited food), and no companionship, and no ability to be in a coma. And with the time dilation, it'd be something like 40 years after he left. And the dude has no family, no friends, no ties on Earth.

@lyberant @The8bitidiot @aruvinchan Any employer who is willing to shut themselves off from 50% of all prospective employees so they can make sexist jokes is an idiot. Finding good engineers is hard enough without artificially limiting the candidate pool. Those businesses will get creamed in the open market.

@The8bitidiot @aruvinchan Okay, if you include her, then you can't make a joke because "she gets offended", and gets offended. Are you sure you're going to do that? It's easy to ask stupid stuff when you have nothing to lose. You're a woman, or an idiot. In either case, you don't know the risk

@nathan_nwr @Variety At no point in the story does anyone end up in a giant 4 dimensional bookshelf and use love to communicate through time. Thematically it is nothing like Interstellar.

Ryan Gosling's #ProjectHailMary wants to be "Interstellar" meets "E.T.," but it's too long and too cutely formulaic. It's a lavish but derivative space adventure, reads Variety's review. wp.me/pc8uak-1lGYXn

@eudaimoniawuwei @catherine_6907 When you're paying for a beer and they give you have a glass of CO2, you're getting ripped off. That's what happens when they recently changed kegs or the CO2 is over-pressured. Yes, some head is correct, but 1/3 of her glass is full of carbon dioxide gas.

@DPandiano @BrentFGray1 @LibOrNormal Yeah, subsurface scattering is going to look and behave very different in natural tissue than in a silicone elastomer pouch filled with silicone gel or saline. (As clearly demonstrated).

@BrentFGray1 @LibOrNormal Don't be an ass. Thing is, that the actual tissue is much thinner in comparison to a natural boob that size. Plus the implant fluid distributes the light much more evenly. This would not work (as well) with natural boobs. So it's pretty cool, I think. No need to drag others down.

@SteveSkojec Most people didn't have digital cameras until the early 2000s. And by that point walkmans had been long since replaced by discmans and early mp3 players. And landlines? Those didn't really go away until the 2010s. This whole post is dumb.

Hard agree. Most who are currently broke would be broke again within 6 months. Especially if you are behind on payments/utilities or borrowed money that you need to pay back. You could be down 6-8k within the first few days, then whatever made you broke in the first place will continue draining your funds until you have nothing again.
