@TheRedGoner i feel like im going insane
no one is mentioning the fact mario 64 lets you turn in mid air with the air kick and im pretty sure everyone would be mad if that got removed lol
In this video Nerrel interviews some random indie devs about their early-3D style platformer and they start talking about not being able to turn in midair in Mario 64 as a problem that they wanted to avoid in their game and if they made it like that now then no one would play it
@TheRedGoner When the guy started talking about "modernizing" the controls like that, I immediately skipped to the next video chapter. It makes sense why they do it — broader appeal — but I can't stand to listen to it anymore.
@ZeekerssRBLX More creatures is honestly what the game needs the least. Reasons to go anywhere but Titan would be a good start. Zero point in going elsewhere. Some type of progression instead of just gather more for the sake of gathering more.
For those not checking my patreon, Version 80 comes with many overhauls and will have the largest amount of new creatures of any update. I wanted to release it in March, but I still feel like I'm just getting started when it comes to the new creatures.
I haven't gotten to the desert in Metroid Prime 4 yet, but it looks quite similar to Windwaker's vast ocean, just more eerie
Anyway, V80 of Lethal Company is deep in development and there's big progress
@0The_Mayor0@ZeekerssRBLX@Schaffrillas The reason they aren't random is likely(?) because the tracks have different entrances and exits, so it's not as simple as "do this road then that road." But they still could've had limited RNG to it, or had more cups.
@ZeekerssRBLX@Schaffrillas Knockout tour should've been randomly selected tracks, not cups. imo. Why have over 200 routes if most will never be touched in the mode they were made for?
The horrible sad truth about Mario Kart World is despite the game's constant attempts to de-emphasize it, the actual traditional 3-lap gameplay is easily the best in the series by far
@tinyhater 23.) In tandem with the True Lab Entry green text, the CORE itself is the only other instance of these green entries.
+ There is dialogue about only One Ending existing, even if there are multiple paths.
@DarylTalksGames Instead I recommend "performance vs progression," like The Electric Underground lays out in his video on the topic.

@DarylTalksGames I know this was chosen based on psychological terminology, but I'd argue "performer" is a better term for describing masters.
"Performance metrics" are a defined term in games (e.g. score), but the type of player you describe is paradoxically uninterested in that.
People tend to play games one of two ways: Either they play it, maybe roll credits, and move on... or they dive in, play multiple times and do EVERYTHING.
This depends on the game of course, but what makes us *prefer* one experience over the other?

@raycastly@ZeekerssRBLX Very interesting he has a video on focus; I was thinking about it just before now.
That said, he seems more into the mental aspect of focus, whereas I consider focus as an element of design itself and it ties into "natural design."
@time_lame@ZeekerssRBLX Looks like a really good resource, thanks!:D Since we're sharing stuff - you might also want to look into the little known YouTube channel of the creator of Amnesia, he dropped some amazing stuff over there:

@ZeekerssRBLX I always learn a lot from your game design notes. Do you mainly learn from experience and dissecting other games, or are there any books, courses, or videos that influenced you? Thanks!:D
@ZeekerssRBLX@raycastly I used to watch Extra Credits and GMTK, but I decided they weren't as insightful as I wanted. They would say stuff that felt okay, but didn't help me on a more fundamental level.
Then I found The Electric Underground and Boghog; I think they're very solid

@ZeekerssRBLX Mouthwashing is a psychological horror that details patriarchy and the horrors of SA. I feel like dumbing it down to a “beef aesthetic game” is extremely disingenuous.
I've gotten sick of raw beef aesthetic in horror games. Beef tunnels, beef monsters. Too many beef environments--just making everything be made of meat for no reason. I didn't look into that Mouthwashing game at all JUST because I feel like it'll have beef
@ZeekerssRBLX The Electric Underground talked about that kind of thing: frustrations that end up making the game more memorable. That channel is so great and insightful with its reviews & game design talk.
Just 'finished' the game. I feel like it was more fun than it had any right to be. I don't know if I can explain why the game being frustrating didn't make me want to quit (kind of like when I talk to people about Rain World.) Favorite single-player game of this year so far?
Blue Prince is a really good puzzle box. So much fun so far. It's giving me the same sort of enjoyment as Lorelei And The Laser Eyes and Myst, although I think all of these games lack what made Outer Wilds so fully formed and ahead of its time
I think I'm just crazy. The moment I saw this, I thought it was evocative and had some deeper meaning, like the game contains some kind of commentary on social media and cultural decay and masking pain with comedy/irony. But no, it's just marketing. At least the game is amazing
