I keep watching these moves by Shinebaum. What I've seen so far is consistently good policy... but I'm starting to form the opinion that there's another layer of strategy to what's happening beyond just the basic socialist/left structures they are trying to build out. It's evident that Mexico is a government under siege by the US through a variety of means. The USMCA was slipped in days before AMLO took office and included what I can only describe as sovereignty- destroying tech and labor integration on a massive scale. I don't think there's a chance in hell it would have passed under Morena - that's why it was signed before they took over and they were left to clean up the mess. Repealing it completely considering the US willingness to weaponize cartels, NGO networks, media infiltrations and other acts of industrial sabotage and terrorism against Mexico I'm sure didn't seem tenable... But they did things in the first round of revisions to claw back some data sovereignty. The next round of updates is coming soon and they have opposition leaders calling for the US to label Morena as a terrorist group and invade. The CIA has been illegally carrying out operations to undermine the government... And it's in light of all these US moves that I keep seeing all of these debt erasures. Shinebaum has strong support from the people of Mexico. It's an extremely popular government and this will only make it more popular... But the other thing that makes this move and the housing debt forgiveness that came before it strategically so smart is that it can't be reversed by the opposition if the US was somehow to succeed. Once those debts are written off, it's over. A part of the debt trap being built in the US by Venture Capital and the state is off the table. I pray to God the US fails... But these irreversible moves are shrewd strategy against an insane imperialist neighbor looking to install a new puppet who will do their bidding at the expense of the Mexican people. My hat is off to Shinebaum and her government for these moves and AMLO for backing her up every step of the way. I hope we see more of them.
