The #GrayWhale spotted dead in Pinole this weekend has been found floating in the San Francisco Bay today near the Oakland Harbor. It is in the process of being towed to Angel Island thanks to our partners at @USACEHQ for a future necropsy, date TBD due to poor incoming weather.

Coordination with partners about where to potentially land the dead whales, if feasible, is dependent on eventual resting locations due to unpredictable tidal patterns. At least 6 whales were sighted at one time in the Bay by our cetacean team last week.

The dead whale wedged under pilings at the Phillips 66 Refinery in Rodeo from March 25 remains in its current location. Experts identified the whale as a male in a moderate state of decomposition. An exact age class, length and further details are still unknown.
