Excited to share our publication @isabeltorressci @lumbricid @chuhousen @PattyOikawa. Compost Amendment to a Grazed California Annual Grassland Increases Gross Primary Productivity Due To a Longer Growing Season. #NbCS #eddycovariance #footprint @AmeriFlux

Much of the food supply in the U.S. goes uneaten, which contributes to climate change. Some states have tried to cut food waste in landfills, but their efforts have fallen short, researchers found. npr.org/2024/09/14/nx-…

#Grape can be grown for 🍷 raisins and table grape 🍇! It can also be grown for shade! Very interesting project @ucanr to explore the use of 🍇 and other vine #plants to provide urban cooling. Vigorous and 🍇 producing vines can achieve both shading and urban farming!
UCCE San Diego@UCCESanDiego

UC experts, including Dr. Natalie Levy, are working on a multi-state research project with CDFA, UC Davis, and others. "Climate Ready Vines for the Western U.S." explores using vines as a faster, eco-friendly alternative to trees for cooling buildings and reducing solar loads.

@UofCalifornia and @UCANR Cooperative Extension scientists have been investigating the feasibility of growing crops in empty lots and other urban settings. The team has created a small farm to test their ideas with the help of @USDA funding. bit.ly/3yKdWIW

Just wrapped up veraison sampling for our (@amelie_gaudin & @BugLundgren labs) project studying the effect of grazing & other regenerative practices on soil health, biodiversity, input usage, yield & grape quality. We sampled insects, assessed ground cover & took petiole samples.

Subsurface banded poultry litter using the subsurfer seems like it could be a great tool in CA cropping systems. Especially for no-till operations, organic ones, and those just looking to reduce synthetic N. attra.ncat.org/blog-47-meet-t…

A nice article on our recent paper which demonstrated how a one time compost addition to rangelands could enhance soil carbon storage through a longer growing season. eesa.lbl.gov/2024/04/04/ees…

Wrapped up the third year of bud break sampling for our research (@BugLundgren / Ecdysis & @amelie_gaudin labs) examining how grazing and regenerative management affects soil health biodiversity, input usage, yield, and grape quality. The study now spans 49 sites across N CA.

It appears that the difference between what Oakland offered and what the A's wanted was about $35 million or so over three years. Or about the same that the Angels are paying reliever Robert Stephenson. Meanwhile, owners overseeing an industry worth many tens of billions of dollars stand by and watch their weakest franchise put on this cheap circus, and do nothing. Incomprehensible. And a terrible business decision.
