The Bears have an unbelievable track record of rarely fully aligning their GM/HC/QB which has led to dysfunction for more than a decade. Let's start in 2011... Jerry Angelo was the GM until 2011. Phil Emery replaced him in 2012, and despite the change at GM, Emery kept HC Lovie Smith and QB Jay Cutler. Lovie finished the season at 10-6 but Phil Emery fired Lovie anyway and hired HC Marc Trestman while keeping QB Jay Cutler. Emery and Trestman lasted until 2014 when both were fired. In 2015, New GM Ryan Pace hired John Fox to be head coach and kept Jay Cutler. They finished 6-10. The Bears proceeded to go 3-13 in 2016. Even with a terrible season, the Bears KEPT HC John Fox and drafted Mitch Trubisky. This did not go well and the Bears fired John Fox in 2017, hiring Matt Nagy to take over as HC. Mitch Trubisky lasted as the team's QB from 2017-2020 where Nagy was his HC the entire time. The Bears moved on from Trubisky in 2021, trading up to draft Justin Fields but once again KEPT the head coach in Matt Nagy! GM Ryan Pace was fired the following season along with Matt Nagy. The Bears hired GM Ryan Poles and HC Matt Eberflus but the Bears had just drafted a QB in Justin Fields so they kept him. Now as we head into the 2024 NFL Draft ...the Bears will once again be keeping their HC while changing a variety of other pieces (OC, QB?) What can go wrong?
