@cosmicjester Noel makes a vague, weak and unsympathetic argument against bad tax reform. That doesn’t change the fundamental fact this is still an awful policy.

@Keg767 @Ozegalitarian I won’t delete though as this “egalitarian” called me a poor little fella & spoiled child then told me to grow up.

@Keg767 @Ozegalitarian Thanks for the feedback. I could and should comport myself better. Dealing with people who have only a superficial grasp of tax policy concepts yet seem to have constructed ideologically motivated mental models of how these tax reforms work has left me at the end of my tether.

My wife doesn’t work. We are blessed to have some money in savings. Let’s say she puts $100K in a hi interest account at 5% at the end of the year she owes nothing in tax. However if she gets a capital gain of $5K she’s up for $1500 in tax. What an asinine policy! Ludicrous!

@taipan168 @spenderallegra Any time I hear politicians talk of backing winners I know I’m paying too much tax. They shouldn’t have the budget/capital to pick winners. It’s their job to create a tax regime that encourages economic growth and investment. It’s our (the private sector’s) job to make it happen.

CGT should encourage *all* entrepreneurs, not just tech startups, @spenderallegra. What about a plumber starting a business that could grow to 100 staff? Or when Mecca Cosmetica had one outlet? A small business raising capital to expand overseas? theaustralian.com.au/nation/budget-…

@Keg767 @queemslander What if some of us do have a $100k invested, from a divorce settlement or something else similar so that (we) people are saving up to buy an apartment or a house. Why can’t we earn extra money to help us, but now Albo wants to tax the buggery out it. What a stupid policy.

@Keg767 @queemslander All I’m going to say is that I’m glad you fly planes for a living and that these special types would drive for uber if they had the smarts to operate the app.

I already said in the follow up to my tweet that we didn’t have $100K. I was using a real example and a hypothetical amount (with a nice round number that I presumed idiots could work out easily) to illustrate the stupidity of the CGT policy. Clearly the example was not idiot proof.

@Ozegalitarian @Keg767 Predictably you have nothing to say. Fucking loser idiot with a minimalist grasp of economics. Leave this debate to the adults please.

@Ozegalitarian @Keg767 Look up the difference between refundable franking credits and the non-refundable minimum CGT. Then give me a sound policy reason why one is refundable and the other isn’t.

@AussieHotelGuy I have actual knowledge of this as I worked in AU for a UK headquartered company. Their public (bank) holidays come out of their annual leave balance. Also they can only roll over 5 days of AL into the next year. Our system is actually more flexible.

@19yma19 @AdamDavis35 @Keg767 @browncharley23 My god man. You’ve been arguing with people for hours who have all been telling you that you’re wrong and only now do we see that you fundamentally misapprehended the changes. 30% non refundable minimum tax. Bad policy.

@sspencer_63 @Lock322 Nothing. This is dumb policy by Labor hacks who don’t understand private enterprise and our existing tax system.

@sspencer_63 @Lock322 The personal services income tax rules already prevent income splitting rorts. So this hypothetical must be describing investment earnings. What’s stopping the “main income earner” transferring ownership of the income producing asset to the other two taxpayers?

@sspencer_63 Noel being an out of touch silver haired and greedy superannuant making a weak criticism doesn’t mean this tax regime isn’t bad.

@amy_sargeant_ This verdict is a mixed ball-bag for me (pardon the pun). +ve: you autogynephiles won’t be in my bathrooms. -ve: my mum, sisters, partner and nieces can no longer safely use a public toilet. Congratulations.

Moments after court adjourned, Sall Grover ran to her dad and started sobbing into his shoulder. The law is very clear: discrimination against trans women is not acceptable. Thanks to all involved for reaffirming this in such a powerful way. #TickleVGiggle

I visited Canberra last week and jokingly posted this photo to Facebook of the crèche at Parliament House with the caption “Labor Party Room meeting.” A week later and I’d gladly put this lot in charge of the budget. They couldn’t possibly do worse.

@TyCobbuofw @taipan168 My sweet summer child 🤣. As an Australian citizen ours is not reason why; ours is to pay tax until we die. Albo and Chalmers picked up the bill. Unfortunately they’re reaching into our pockets to pay.

Given that Bullsbrook cost Australian taxpayers $1.37bn, at least its cost-per-use is now down to $228m per person rather than infinity. And the chartered plane would have cost in the order of $500k too. smh.com.au/national/austr…
