Kemi’s media interview today was interrupted by the kind of people that shout loudest at the Hate Marches. You know, the ones that aren’t polite enough to wait ‘til the end, then ask a question, then to actually listen to the answer. This is what happened.

Add traducing Muslims to Zack Polanski's foul record. Today he attacked Fiyaz Mughal, a veteran fighter against anti-Muslim hatred, and Baroness Falkener, former head of the EHRC. "Blaming an entire community" - neither does. "Inflammatory comments", "wrong", and more. Shameful.

It seems @NaturalEngland have decided it’s more important to protect the few fish near Hinckley Point than the many around the world who would benefit from green energy. This is a classic example of measurement bias: just because you can count it, doesn’t mean it’s more important. The rules over nuclear safety have cost lives and damaged the environment as it’s made carbon emissions impossible to replace. That’s the real legacy of the bureaucracy of Natural England and others when they protect themselves from criticism instead of finding the best solution for everyone. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

This is the point I keep making. Natural England are legally mandated to only care about the fish, not Putin, power cuts, bankrupt businesses etc. We have eliminated any concept of ‘trade-offs’, at vast expense.
Sam Dumitriu@Sam_Dumitriu

Natural England have decided that £700m spent protecting fish isn’t enough. They want EDF to do even more before they’ll let them switch the plant on. This will cause a big delay. Put simply, Natural England is a threat to our energy security. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

for those of you who are unaware, British employment commissions have in the past found that you need to pay people the same salary for *completely different jobs* if one job attracts more men and the other more women. and that this claim can be backdated to bankrupt you.
max tempers@maxtempers

The largest supermarket in Britain, that operates on razor-thin margins, is about to be crushed for the crime of paying different jobs different salaries, while our legislature shrugs. How dare they suggest that “so-called market rates” can exist in Soviet Britain.

A good thread. Another thing to add, often lost in this debate: we are *already borrowing for defence*. Two-thirds of the increase in the Ministry of Defence budget over the parliament is capital funding, which the government can and does borrow for under its fiscal rules.
Stewart Wood@StewartWood

The idea of removing defence spending from the scope of fiscal rules is gaining traction. Andy Burnham mentioned it yesterday (“There’s certainly a case, when we look at the pressure on defence spending, to consider that exceptionally outside of the rules”). What might this mean?

(1/7) The Tobacco and Vapes Act has now received Royal Assent and becomes law. Smoking has killed and disabled millions of people. Most smokers wish they had never started but are trapped by addiction to nicotine- addiction takes their choice away.

Burnham lives in fantasy land. Bond markets are just maths — you can’t fool them by changing names around. Borrowing more means asking someone to buy your extra debt. That comes at a price. Result: interest costs (already more than we spend on defence) go up even more.

I know there are ongoing court cases but I do think this series of attacks, with some linked to an Iran-linked Islamist terrorist group, should be a higher order of government and public concern that it currently appears to be.
